This website is an attempt to provide authentic information to researchers and all people about the Inpui Naga tribe of North East India, also known as Kabui. The term Kabui became ambiguous with the Rongmei tribe clubbed together later on under the same nomenclature of Kabui. The information available on this website are mostly the research works and findings of the author and administrator of the website unless otherwise specified. And as such copyright belongs to the author and any suggestion or comments may be sent to the author.
The Inpui Naga tribe is officially recognized as Kabui Naga by the constitution of India. But due to various reasons the Inpui Naga Union started pursuing with the Government of Manipur as well as Government of India for modification of the tribe's name and after a long struggle of about four decades, finally it is done with the passing of a Bill in the parliament of India in December 2011. The Bill does not delete the term "Kabui" but added "INPUI" in the same serial number of the list of Scheduled Tribes of Manipur. For a brief introduction about the Inpui tribe please click here. Although detailed accounts of the tribe is not found in written form, but a number of sources may be traced to research papers in the recent years, tour diaries of British administrators, royal chronicles of Manipuri Kings like Cheitharol Kumbaba, Ningthourol Lambuba etc. Brief Accounts are also available in the Seminar Paper "Origin of the Inpui (Kabui) Nagas" presented by K. Alung Khumba in a seminar in 2001.
