Trains, buses and planes

The OV chipkaart is the best (and sometimes only) method of payment in train, metro and bus in Holland. Instead of buying tickets, you check in and out with the card.

Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch railways) has a very good English website and app 'NS reisplanner'.

The 9292OV website and app lets you plan your travel from place to place with trains, buses and metros included. This is very useful if you have to travel in Holland with public transport. It gives all the prices and times.

The high speed train is a great alternative to plane travel, particularly to France and Germany, but you can also take the Eurostar to London.

Eurolines runs buses to almost all countries in Europe. They are usually much cheaper than plane or train.

There are a number of websites offering cheap air flights, such as Expedia and Kayak. Sometimes it is cheaper to book directly with the airline.
