1980 Tony Bettenhausen 200

Network: NBC

Date and time: August 10, 1980, 3:00 PM

Format: Tape-delayed

Length: 20 minutes

A 20-minute highlight package of the race was shown on same-day tape delay as part of NBC Sportsworld, alongside the Avon World Women's Marathon and Survival of the Fittest. It was billed as the "Milwaukee 200".

The coverage of the race was criticized by many, including in The Indianapolis Star. Criticism focused on the low amount of coverage of the race (20 minutes out of the 90 minute broadcast), one of the cameras being behind a tree, which limited race action shown, only giving 1st through 3rd in the standings and never below, and skipping most of the battling for the lead between Al Unser and Johnny Rutherford. The Star report said poor coverage like this was why auto racing wasn't as popular as other sports.
