On the 26th of July 2023, a coup d'état occurred in Niger when the country's presidential guard detained President Mohamed Bazoum, and Presidential Guard commander General Abdourahamane Tchiani proclaimed himself the leader of a new military junta. This marks the fifth coup d'état in the country since the country gained their independence.

On the 15th of November 1884, 14 nations met as to negotiate on the future of the African continent concerning European colonization and trade in Africa during the imperialism period.
