Please note the General Rules for Entry, Pentathlon Rules, Competition Categories, & Schedule.
There are also separate sections for individuals interested in being a Judge or providing a Peer Prize.
1) Why is there a limit on the number of pages that documentation can be?
A: This was added to give the maximum benefit to both entrants and judges. The entrants are able to focus on the most essential information necessary for the item according to the judging criteria. With increasing numbers of items in competition, judges have limited time for each item, a shorter length in documentation allows them to give each item their full attention and to find the information needed more easily.
2) But, what if I have lots of pictures and a long bibliography?
A: Illustrations and bibliography are not included in the page limit. The page limit applies to the written portion of the documentation.
3) I've read the section about Choosing a Category, but I am still unsure where my item fits. What should I do?
A: The Event Steward can help you select a category for your entry.
4) Do I have to enter at least five (5) items to participate in the event?
A: Any and all items are welcome to enter. Even if you only enter one (1) item, we would love to see what you can do!
5) My entry won a competition, but there were no other entries. Can I still enter since it only won by default?
A: In order to be fair to all entries, we must remain consistent in administration of the rules. If an item has won first place, even if it was the only entry, it has received recognition and is not eligible for the competitions. We do encourage you to display the item and receive feedback though.
6) I've been working on an item for several years. Can I enter it?
A: As long as the item was completed within the past two years, you may enter it. The category of your item can be affected by this. For example, if you prepared some scrolls five years ago and bound them into a book last year, you could enter the item into the "Manuscript Arts - Bookbinding" category (but not into the "Manuscript Arts - Calligraphy and/or Illumination" category). If you have a question about whether an item can be entered, please contact the Event Steward.
7) I got sick at the last minute and could not attend the event. Can I send my entry with someone else?
A: Yes, you can send your entry, but it will be for display only (not the competition).
