There were two podium places for Irish runners at the JHI last weekend, and Ireland drew with Wales in the Individual points competition for the first time in recent memory.
Ruairi Short took 1st place in M18, and Aine McCann was a close 3rd in W14.
In the Relays, despite outstanding individual runs by Kevin O'Boyle, Nicolas Simonin, Cian O'Boyle & Ruairi Short, Wales were too strong for Ireland overall, the final points total was England 139, Scotland 105, Wales 63, Ireland 53.

Selection of the Irish team for EYOC 2007 will be made immediately after the Irish Championships.
The Selectors are Ruth Lynam, Greg McCann, Mary Healy.
Selection Policy
- Attendance at the Irish Championships is required unless for very good reason.
- Results which will be taken into account when making selections are: Irish Championships Middle and Classic races, JK Individual & Relay, and Leinster Champs. Results and general form over the past year will also be taken into consideration. Any junior who wants results from other events to be considered should send on details, preferably with website links.
- However, results at any particular race will not guarantee selection. Juniors selected will be:
a) those judged capable of competing near the standard required in all disciplines at EYOC, and
b) juniors new to international competition who have shown promise and improvement and who we believe will benefit from the experience.
As always it is an advantage when aiming for selection to show interest and commitment by attending major events (including trips abroad) and training opportunities.

See http://jwoc2007.orienteering.asn.au/
Eligible to be selected for the Irish team are M/W 20's and 2nd year M/W 18's, ie juniors born in 1987, 1988 or 1989.
The competitions are centred around Dubbo, 400 km from Sydney, from Sat 7 to Fri 13 July. Training is available around Orange in the same region between Sat 30 June & Fri 6 July. This whole training period will be used by the Irish team so as to adjust to the time difference and reduce the effects of jetlag, giving a minimum time away of 2 1/2 weeks.
Given the time commitment required and the high cost (air fares £720 London-Sydney at present), selection of the Irish team will be made in stages and as soon as is possible.
-Selected immediately are Nicolas Simonin (BOC) and Seamus O'Boyle (CNOC) on the basis of overall ability and international results to date.
-Further selections may be made taking into account previous form along with current fitness, consistency and results this year.
-Additional places are possible if merited by international results this year at for example Danish Spring Cup and JK.
The Irish Junior Squad selectors are - Ruth Lynam, Mary Healy, Greg McCann.
