Details of the Training Weekend 10-11 October 2009

The plan:

Sat 10 Oct

09:30 meet at Knockmaroon Gate of Phoenix Park, warm-up, run Time Trial, lunch.

14:00 Hellfire & Massy's Wood - training compass work

17:00 approx. to Knockree Hostel. Dinner, evening entertainment.

Sun 11 Oct

09:00 leave for Trooperstown Wood, training, lunch.

14:00 approx. depart.

The best way in is to use Chapelizod Gate which will be open until 10:00.

Time Trial

M/W16s and older who want to be considered for selection for international competitions must run the trime trial. Younger juniors may run one or 2 laps if they wish.

I'll send links for previous trial times by request.

Before running there will be time to reconnoitre the course and do a warm-up.

The start order is attached, oldest starting first. Zero time will be about 10:30. Please check your SI card no. & let me know beforehand if it's wrong.

You'll need your SI card, and O shoes with good grip.

Training in the afternoon will be in Hellfire & Massy's Wood, making use of the new permanent controls.

Accommodation is in Knockree hostel near Enniskerry http://www.anoige.ie/hostels/knockree. Cooking, cleaning etc. will be allocated by a draw.

Evening entertainment will include a SI punching race.

Training on Sunday on Trooperstown on both the open mountain and in the interesting little forest near Laragh.

Food - bring your own lunch, drinks, energy snacks, etc for Saturday.

Dinner on Saturday, breakfast & materials for packed lunch on Sunday will be provided.

Cost - approx. €25 each depending on the final cost of the food.

Equipment

You will need:

Usual orienteering gear, plus warm clothes to wear during pauses, lunch, etc.

O shoes

SI card (let me know if you need to borrow one).

Compass

Cagoule

Whistle
