My name is Hannah-Joy Simms and I am a PhD student within the Experimental Psychology program. My research interests include language learning strategies, spacing and educational research. Outside of the lab I love books, films, and sharks!
I am Ayomiposi, a PhD candidate at the Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI), Department of Earth Science. My research involves numerical modeling of earthquakes using dynamic rupture simulations to study slope stability and its associated hazards.
Omolola Oladeji is a second-year Master of Public Health (MPH) student. Her academic and professional interests center on pediatric chronic illnesses, with a particular focus on gene therapy for hemophilia, sickle cell and pediatric cancers. Omolola is passionate about global health and is committed to improving the quality of life for children living with long-term conditions.
James is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management at the Fogelman College of Business and Economics. His research area is in Consumer Behavior with a focus on political ideology and consumer choice.
Rajat is a second-year PhD (Marketing) student at the Fogelman College of Business & Economics, University of Memphis. He comes with rich industry experience of more than 14 years in sales and operations roles. Rajat has also served as the lead consultant on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for one of the world’s largest container ports. His research interests are consumer well-being, sustainable marketing and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
As a PhD student in Cognitive Psychology, I'm exploring how personalized and motivational approaches can make the learning process more effective. With over 15 years of experience in K-12 education in my home country, I've focused on creating innovative programs to engage learners. I'm passionate about advancing learning science and using motivational techniques to make learning more exciting and effective for students.
Haley is a PhD student in the Experimental Cognitive Psychology program. She works under the advisement of Dr. Shelbi Kuhlmann in the KuhlMedia & Mind Lab, studying emerging technologies to support STEM success. Some of her research interests include self-regulation, motivation, collaborative learning, and learning from errors.
Ifeoluwa Awopetu is a Ph.D. student in the Applied Linguistics program at the Department of English. Her research encompasses multimodal communication and online interactions. She is particularly interested in how language, identity, and ideology intersect in computer-mediated communication.
Favour Olarewaju is a PhD candidate in the Economics Department of the Fogelman College of Business & Economics at the University of Memphis. She is the Economics Ambassador of IISSO and is enthusiastic about fostering networking opportunities and promoting IISSO awareness & activities. As a Graduate Assistant, she has passion for teaching alongside years of teaching experience, and her research interests include health, labor and applied economics with over 10 publications in reputable journals.
David is a former president of IISSO (2024–25) and a PhD candidate in Applied Physics, specializing in Computational Condensed Matter Physics. His research focuses on ferroelectric materials with applications in current and next-generation nonvolatile memory technologies.
Shao Liam Chew is a Ph.D. candidate in Management Information Systems at the University of Memphis. His research investigates how individuals and organizations respond to emerging technologies with societal and security implications—particularly deepfakes, AI-generated misinformation, and cybersecurity threats. His work draws on behavioral, ethical, and organizational perspectives to understand trust, decision-making, and institutional adaptation in digitally disrupted environments.
I’m a Ph.D. candidate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Memphis, specializing in advanced electrode materials for next-generation energy storage systems. My research focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical evaluation of MXene-based nanocomposites for lithium-ion and supercapacitor applications. I’m passionate about clean energy technologies, materials science, and fostering inclusive academic communities. Outside the lab, I enjoy connecting with fellow students and supporting initiatives empowering global scholars.
