Whitney Cade is a graduate student in the Department of Psychology at the University of Memphis. Working primarily in the Institute for Intelligent System, her primary interests include cognitive science and learning. Her specific interests include expert human tutoring, pedagogical strategies, intelligent tutoring systems, pedagogical agents, and the application of machine learning in educational software.

Blair Lehman is a psychology doctoral student at the University of Memphis. She is advised by Art Graesser and Andrew Olney. Her main research interests are general areas of cognitive psychology, emotion, education, cognitive science, and intelligent tutoring systems. More specific interests include tutoring (human and computer), emotions during learning, affective computing, instructional methods, state standards and assessment, complex learning, and models of effective teaching.

Jaclyn Maass is a second year doctoral student with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Tampa. She works now as a research assistant under Dr. Philip I. Pavlik Jr. in the Institute for Intelligent Systems at the University of Memphis. Her research interests include knowledge acquisition, intelligent tutoring systems, metacognition, and cognitive psychology.

Haiying Li is a PhD student in Cognitive Psychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Memphis. Haiying is a research assistant funded by an NSF grant since 2011. The research projects Haiying is involved in are being being conducted in the Institute for Intelligent Systems at the University of Memphis. Haiyings research interests are: discourse processes, intelligent tutoring system, reading education and cognition.

Kenneth Barideaux is a graduate student in the MS in General Psychology program and currently serves as a research assistant in the Optimal Learning Lab directed by Dr. Philip Pavlik Jr. He received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Louisiana State University. Broadly, his research interest includes the investigation of how memorial processes effects learning. In addition, he is interested in testing effects, spacing effects, attention, and strategy-use.

Rachel is a 1st year doctoral student at the University of Memphis with a broad interest in how people learn and use knowledge for both their academic and non-academic lives. Some of her particular interests within the learning sciences include literacy learning, problem solving, digital literacy, and learning in digital spaces. Aside from her doctoral pursuits, Rachel also devotes her time to the University's Science Fiction Research Collective, to volunteering as a literacy tutor with Literacy Mid-South, and to her collection of furred and feathered companions.

Patrick Hays

Patrick Hays is a graduate student at the University of Memphis pursuing his Masters in General Psychology. He has worked with Dr. Andrew Olney on the Guru project for the past three years. Patrick's primary research interests are cognitive psychology, human-computer interaction, usability engineering, and user-centered design. More specifically he is interested in software and web interface design, 3D modeling and animation, and Intelligent Tutoring Systems.

Chris Constantino is a PhD student in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Memphis. Chris is currently working under the mentorship of Dr. Walt Manning. His area of concentration is stuttering and his collateral area is counseling. His research interests include the therapeutic process, improving treatment outcomes, counseling, qualitative research, and the neurophysiological substrates of stuttering.

Benjamin is a PhD student from the philosophy department at the University of Memphis. His research interests are in philosophy of mind and philosophy of science. His specific interests are in the philosophy of neuroscience, the phenomenology of affective experience, and enactive cognition. He studies under the mentorship of Shaun Gallagher.

Borhan is a Computer Science graduate student at the Universty of Memphis, he is a research assistant at the Institute for Intelligent Systems. Borhan's main resarch areas are Natural Language Processing, and Artificial Intelligence. He is also interested in Educational Data Mining and Machine Learning.

Iftekhar Anam is a PhD student in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Memphis. His research interests include Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Human-Computer Interaction. Currently he is developing Assistive Technology solutions on Android devices that help the visually impaired individuals perceive non-verbal communication cues.

Steve Strain

Steve is clinically-trained as a physician and currently pursues PhD studies in Biomedical Engineering. His primary area of research is the design and implementation of cognitive agent software for the automated diagnosis of medical conditions from electronic medical record data. An additional interest lies in brain rhythms research as it pertains to cognitive function.
