Task 3 - Authentic learning project

Task context: Immerse yourself in the overall context described above (see assignment details) and imagine your colleagues will visit your website to gather ideas about how they could implement ICT in their own classrooms.

Task decription: Prepare a unit of work to demonstrate to your colleagues how you would use ICT in your classroom for your area of teaching. Immerse yourself in the context and write to suit your target audience; teachers. Ensure your plans and instructions are clear and easy to follow and include sufficient details, resources and supports to allow another teacher to implement your unit of work in their own classrooms.

Specifically, you need to:

    1. Draw on your background research (assignment 2) and your understanding of the unit readings to plan an authentic unit of work in your area of interest (e.g., primary science, Year 11 mathematics, tax law at TAFE).

        • Identify a meaningful real-life task (based on the principles of authentic learning) that students could complete to learn about and demonstrate their understanding of the concepts for your chosen topic.

        • Focus on students using technology as cognitive tools (as discussed in the unit readings), rather than solely the teacher using the technology. Consider recent technical developments only to the extent that they might influence teaching and learning.

    2. Plan work to engage students over a period of 2-3 weeks (i.e., not just a single lesson or two). Plan the tasks, resources and supports required to deliver your unit of work.

        • Provide sufficient detail so that another teacher could implement your unit of work in their own classrooms

        • Provide example resources that the teacher would provide to students to complete the unit of work

        • Abide by copyright laws and acknowledge all third party resources and information using in-text citations

        • Include a complete listing of all your references (APA 6th style) so that your colleagues can follow up your sources

    3. Present your unit of work as a professional looking website.

        • Ensure you consider the web design issues you identified in assignment task 1 to produce a polished and professional looking website

        • Add as many pages as you need to ensure your plans, instructions, resources and supports can be easily identified and accessed by other teachers.

    4. Evaluate your authentic learning website (details available on the LMS).

    5. Review a peer’s authentic learning website and provide constructive feedback (details available on the LMS).

    6. Complete and submit Assign3 coversheet / marking rubric on the LMS.

Important Note: Make sure you follow the above guidelines. Assignment tasks vary from year to year, so the examples provided may not reflect all aspects of the tasks for this year. However, they will provide you with some ideas about how to present your work.

Acknowledgement: Our sincere thanks to students from previous years for permission to use their work as examples for future students.
