Task context: Immerse yourself in the overall context described above (see assignment details) and imagine your colleagues will visit your website to view your research presentation and report to gather ideas for implementing ICT in their own classrooms.
Task description: Research what ICT other teachers are using in your area of teaching, write a report summarising your research findings, create a 5 minute video highlighting the key points identified in your report and publish your video on the web. Immerse yourself in the context and imagine you are delivering your presentation live to your colleagues at a staff meeting or a teaching forum.
Specifically, you need to:
Research the latest trends for using ICT in your teaching area (e.g., if your teaching area is secondary school maths, what technologies are other teachers using in their maths, classrooms and how are they using these technologies?).
Use one of each of the following resources to research your topic:
A scholarly article - Use the library’s databases to find an education journal article, dated 2000 or later, on your topic
A website - Use a search engine such as Google to find a website relevant to the topic you’ve chosen
An audio podcast - Use a search engine such as Google to find a relevant audio podcast
A video clip - Use a search engine such as Google to find a relevant video clip
Add your four resources to the Diigo EDN205-2012 Resource Library (add tags to identify your teaching area and resource type).
Reflect on and share your research with your colleagues. Write a report (max. 2,000 words) describing how ICT is being used in your area of teaching. View Task 2 report guidelines (Google Doc).
Attach a PDF version of your report to the teacher page on your website
Include hyperlinks to the resources you found and images where relevant on the teacher page on your website
Ensure you acknowledge all third party work appropriately and abide by copyright laws (in your report and on your website)
Create a 5 minute narrated video presentation summarising your report findings and add a link or embed the video on the Teacher page on your website. There is a vast range of free online technologies available for creating video presentations. The presentations, screencasts and videos pages on the Technology Toolbox for Educators provides links to suggested tools.
Your video must include:
video footage of yourself, and
an audio narration that clearly explains: your teaching area (eg: Maths, Arts etc), the student cohort (eg: Year level), and a summary of each of the four resources you located.
Evaluate your report and video (details available on the Moodle LMS).
Review fellow students reports and videos and provide constructive feedback (details available on the Moodle LMS).
Complete and submit Assign2 coversheet / marking rubric on the Moodle LMS.
Important Note: Make sure you follow the above guidelines. Assignment tasks vary from year to year, so the examples provided may not reflect all aspects of the tasks for this year. However, they will provide you with some ideas about how to present your work.
Acknowledgement: Our sincere thanks to students from previous years for permission to use their work as examples for future students.
