Task context: Imagine your colleagues will visit your website to gather ideas for setting up their own, class, or school websites.
Task description: Research key design and implementation issues you will need to consider for developing a website. Investigate the affordances of free web creation technologies to determine which technology best suits your needs and create a website to display your work for this unit. Explore some of the technologies available for communicating and collaborating online. Reflect on and share your learning with your colleagues. Self-evaluate your work to identify areas for improvement.
Specifically, you need to:
Research key design and implementation issues for developing a website.
Key design issues may include: website navigation, layout, fonts, colours, readability etc.
Key implementation issues may include: copyright, accessibility, credibility, etc.
Investigate the affordances of free web creation technologies and determine which technology best suits your needs.
Example affordances may include: ease of use, range of features, technical support, page protection, etc.
Create a website using your preferred technology, add the following pages and information:
Home page – Brief introduction to your area of teaching and student cohort. (e.g., Year 3 Science, Year 8 English, Year 11 Mathematics, etc.) and the purpose of your website
About page – Bio, photo, contact email
Teacher page – Add a brief description about your report (see point 4). Include hyperlinks to resources and images where relevant
Reflect on and share your research with your colleagues. Write a report (max. 1,500 words) describing the key design and implementation issues you researched (see point 1) and explain how you addressed these issues in creating your website.

Attach a PDF version of your report to the teacher page on your website
Ensure you acknowledge all third party work appropriately and abide by copyright laws
Explore online communication and collaboration technologies by joining the EDN205 groups:
Skype: A versatile communication tool (text, audio, or video chat). Download and install Skype.
Add jennip98 to your contacts and request permission to join the group [5:46min video].
Diigo: An online social bookmarking tool for sharing resources. Create an account and install a Diigo toolbar or diggolet. Join the Diigo group: ICT-2012 Resource Library. Bookmark your website on the EDN205 Diigo Group (add tags to identify your area of teaching eg: Maths, English, Health & Phys Ed. etc).
Google Docs: An online collaboration tool. Access the EDN205 Folder, open the Student websites file and type the URL for your website and other details next to your name.
Evaluate your website and report (details available on the Moodle LMS).
Complete and submit the Assign1 coversheet & marking rubric on the Moodle LMS (details available on the Moodle LMS).
Important Note: Make sure you follow the above guidelines. Assignment tasks vary from year to year, so the examples provided may not reflect all aspects of the tasks for this year. However, they will provide you with some ideas about how to present your work.
