I can use of the formulae for conditional probability and independent events
I can demonstrate how to test for independence
As we have seen before, for independent events the outcome of one event does NOT change the probability of the other event. In probability algebra notation this means:
independent: P(A|B) = P(A|B') = P(A)
As a consequence we get the result that we have known since year 9:
P(A ∩ B) = P(A|B) × P(B) = P(A) × P(B)
