Step 4: Designing Overexpression experiment

Now that you have decided which is your candidate gene, it's time to test its role in Mouse. You will design an experiment to test if this gene could have an effect on neurodegeneration processes.

You will work with Lab mouses. You can over-express or supress the expression of a desired gene to learn about its function. It's up to you to choose what will you measure.

Goals

Design an over-expression experiment by transgenesis. Define the treatments, and the variables we will measure.

Key ideas to take into account

• When a gene is overexpressed or supressed, we can see higher or lower levels of its function, and identify its function from it. ("What happens when we over-express this gene?").
• When doing experiments, we always need something to compare and something to measure.
