Hunting for a Gene

Biomedical research is not only a matter of lab work.

The big amount of genetic data collected, and the information we can get from searching, comparing and working with DNA sequences have resulted in the new branch of biology: Bioinformatics.

Bioinformatics allow researchers to predict how a protein will fold, where is the most probable location of a gene, and which piece of DNA is most likely to induce effects in certain aspects of our lifes.

We call In silico all the research carried through a computer, mainly with databases, compared to In vitro (in a laboratory, with biological samples) and In vivo (in a laboratory, with biological living organisms).

The In silico research is changing everything in biomedical research: we can predict which will be the best medecine for a patient, prevent genetic disorders and...hunt for genes.

You are invited to participate in the hunt. Make a team of three hunters and welcome to XXI century biomedecine.
