To sustain the cadets' interest in the Corps and to instill in them the sense of striving to do well.

In order to obtain the ranks, the Cadet should fulfill the promotion criteria and have the required badges. Promotion Tests will be conducted in his/her own unit.
Cdt (NPCC)
The basic rank for all Sec 1 Cadets. All NPCC Cadets start out wearing this rank.
Lcp (NPCC)
Sec 1 Cadets may be promoted to this rank in Sec 2 if they fulfill the promotion criteria.
CPL (NPCC)
Lance Corporals may be promoted to this rank in Sec 2 or 3
Sgt (NPCC)
Corporals may be promoted to this rank when they pass the promotion criteria
SSgt
Secondary 4/5 Sergeants may be promoted to this rank if they pass the promotion test
SI (NPCC)
Highest rank a Cadet can vile for, only 2 per unit. Cadet must have fulfilled the requirements, and can only be obtained after an interview with Area Commandant
CI (NPCC)
Outstanding Sec 4/5 Cadets will be nominated to complete CIBTC held everyo June & December. They will return to the unit as CIs
SCI (NPCC)
Served the Corps for a minimum of 2 years with recommendation from their OCs

Sec 4 & above
The highest and most prestigious badge that a Cadet can obtain. The Cadet must hold the minimum rank of Staff Sergeant, passed Physical Fitness Test, have good leadership qualities with outstanding contributions to both in school unit and HQ events. The Cadet must also obtain the required proficiency badges.
Sec 3 & above
The Best Unit Cadet (BUC) award badge is awarded to two cadets for a mixed gender unit and one cadet for a single gender unit. Cadet must hold the minimum rank of Corporal and have made outstanding contributions to the school unit.

Be able to tie all 8 basic knots, know all parts and pitch a 4-man tent
