German physicist Herman Von Helmholtz would contemplate the idea being true. In 1885, vortex-motion was first mathematically analyzed by Helmholtz. The vortex smoke motion has been in practice since smoking has. Vortices is a term used for a spherical vortex, Hills later terminology, which will be used frequently in the explanation/demonstration of my smoke ring project. Vortex atoms, introduced by Sir William Thomson (Lord Kelvin), suggest that Helmholtz’s rings are existing atoms. Thomson's mathematical theory was very well set with support of other credible scientist. Although his enthusiasm for the vertex atom was a theory well worth investigating it lost fame due to other achievements of the 19th century. Unfortunately, Thomson’s death came shortly after 1907. It was that visual of a smoke ring that lead to one of the greatest phenomenons in physics, has been used to explain and improve certain systems. Vortex rings exist in nature and that was one concept all physicist could agree, even physicist Peter Guthe Tait. Tait in 1867 displayed the wonderful experiment of the smoke ring that would be repeated centuries later and still today.
