About HYC Racing

Welcome to HYC Racing!

HYC has been actively racing sailing yachts since its establishment in 1981, and maintains a list of scheduled races on the HYC Calendar of Events on the website and published monthly in the Club newsletter, The Spreader. In addition to the regular Club races typically held the first Saturday of each month, HYC sponsors both Spring and Fall Regattas. These events have historically included a Friday evening Meet and Greet, Saturday races and evening Social, and Sunday races and awards ceremony.

New in 2016 we will be offering 3 new racing series for those interested, the Perpetual Race series (see info on this website), Single Handing Series, and Dingy racing.

Skippers Meetings for regular Club races are conducted at 11 AM each race day at the Clubhouse unless otherwise posted. Sailors wishing to crew on a boat - or Skippers needing crew - can usually fill their need at the Skippers Meeting, along with learning the course for the day and any specific rule changes or hazards. The rules for sailing with HYC are delineated in the HYC Sailing Instructions, which are revised annually.

Regular Club races are designed to provide a competitive format for three fleets.

“A Fleet”, previously known as the spinnaker fleet, is primarily intended for those more competitive and experienced racers.

“B Fleet”, for moderately experiences racers who are intersted in flexible handicap adjustments for the purpose of maintaining an equal chance of winning among all boats, reguardless of boat/sail condition and number of experienced crew.

“C Fleet”, also known as the Cruising fleet, is designed to provide inexperienced racers and/or heavy crusing boats a more casual experience. “C Fleet” is often started separately from the A and B fleets to provide a more relaxed start, and usually has a shorter course to accommodate slower boat speeds.
