Master Wong Hong Wing was recognized among Wu Style Tai Ji Quan practitioners in Montreal, Canada, as the direct successor of Grandmaster Wu Kung Yi (3rd generation of Wu Style Tai Ji Quan). Master Wong possessed profound knowledge and extensive experience in the practical applications of Wu Style Tai Ji Quan, which he had practiced and taught in Hong Kong, China.
In the summer of 1992, Master Wong visited Montreal and met with local Wu Style Tai Ji Quan practitioners who requested instruction from him. He initially declined their invitation out of humility. However, after repeated sincere requests, Master Wong agreed to accept 21 students and conducted an intensive two-month training program in the 'Small Frame' Wu Style Tai Ji Quan, with the goal of promoting this art form and continuing the tradition he had nurtured in Hong Kong in Canada.
Throughout the intensive training period, Master Wong personally attended to each of his 21 students, meticulously teaching and correcting their movements, techniques for manipulating Qi (internal energy), breathing rhythms, and proper weight distribution during practice. He also shared the application theories and philosophical principles of Wu Style Tai Ji Quan, enabling his students to develop a deeper appreciation and understanding of the art. Following Master Wong's practice guidelines, the students experienced significant improvements in their health.
Before departing Montreal, Master Wong encouraged his students to establish a formal association to promote Wu Style Tai Ji Quan, coordinate practitioners across Canada, and preserve this valuable cultural heritage by passing it on to others so that more people could benefit from its health advantages.
On October 7, 1992, the Hong Wing Wu Style Tai Ji Quan Association – Montreal was officially established and registered in accordance with Canadian law.
It is with deep sadness that we announce Grandmaster Wong Hong Wing passed away on May 10, 2023.
