MEGA BOWL III HIGHLIGHTS
Top ranked Galloping Gandolfinis hosted fellow undefeated TheyHateUs in the Dog Days of Spring Sunday League Championship Game. Only one team would leave the field with a perfect 8-0 record.
Perfection was nothing new for THU. In their first season in the league, they went undefeated, capturing the league's second Mega Bowl. For TheyHateUs, in what would ultimately be their last game before folding as a franchise, a win would have meant going out on top; undefeated and untied.
Galloping Gandolfinis had their own set of ambitions and aspirations, though. Winning this game would mean capturing their first title and going down as arguably the greatest team in league history.
Electing to play defense first, THU got a red zone stop to start the game and immediately seized on the momentum with a quick score to take a 1-0 lead. Gandolfinis responded forcefully, scoring three straight touchdowns. THU found the end zone just before halftime but failed to move the ball to open the second half. Gandolfinis would move ahead 5-2 on back to back TDs paired with the games first and only takeaway, a red zone interception by Miles Akannam. Never giving up hope, THU scored twice in the final two minutes to pull within one. But, out of timeouts and unable to stop the clock, there was nothing more THU could do. One kneel down by Galloping Gandolfinis ended the game. TheyHateUs left the league with an impressive, but in the end imperfect, 15-1 record. Five players from the Galloping Gandolfinis would go on to become charter members of the Hall of Fame.
