RS-UVPA Power Amplifier

The RS-UVPA is designed to interconnect mechanically and electrically with the HobbyPCB RS-UV3 or RS-UV3A, three band, FM transceivers. It will boost the output of the transceiver from the 1/4W level to 4-5W depending on the band.

Instructions for mating the RS-UV3 and the RS-UVPA are in the RS-UVPA manual on the HobbyPCB Website. This page has instructions for connecting the RS-UV3A transceiver to the RS-UVPA.

Note: the RS-UVPA Enclosure kit has parts for both the RS-UV3 and RS-UV3A transceivers, some of the parts in the kit will not be used!!!

RS-UV3A Preparation

There are four modifications needed on the RS-UV3A board for installation of the RS-UVPA:

RS-UVPA Preparation

There are six modifications needed on the RS-UVPA board:

Cut the power switch cable to 3", solder to the switch terminals and insert the switch in the read panel. (use very little heat during soldering it's easy to damage the switch)

Connect the power switch cable to the 2-pin R/A header on the RS-UVPA, mate the RS-UV3A and RS-UVPA boards and place the rear panel over the SMA connectors.

Attach the front panel to the extrusion using only two screws in the positions indicated.

Set the top panel over the heatsink (it's not symmetrical so orient it correctly). Slide the RS-UV3A, RS-UVPA and top panel into the open end of the extrusion.

Install the four screws that hold the rear panel and the two remaining screws f in the front panel.

Form the coax jumper into a 'U' shape being careful to maintain an adequate bend radius and install in the indicated position.

This completes the case installation.
