The rest of the content on this page is a scratch-board of ideas for research needs statements specific to ACP70. The purpose of this page is to have one place for all ideas related to creating and developing research projects. Research ideas found below will be prioritized and action items such as writing a research statement will be assigned to ACP70 committee members as needed.

LIST OF RESEARCH PROJECT IDEAS:

1. Prioritize/Document data collection efforts/best practices based on systematic needs for safety

analyses.

2. Assemble data integration of Traffic and Safety data and provide "How to make use of data we

already have for "safety" purposes

3. Synchronize Linear Referencing Systems (LRS) to address safety needs

4. Research Traffic Data Quality Control and Quality Checking methods

5. Research ITS and Travel Monitoring Program and Data Integration

6. Consider formulating a subcommittee specifically for safety data usage

7. Provide Research that solidifies the need to maintain program data collection activities within state

DOT's - this includes the need to understand why traffic data is so important.

8. Research how to get value for data collection activities including return on investment dollars

9. Research feasibility of collecting turning movement data everywhere and improve the understanding

of safety needs for traffic data. Define the extent to which traffic data is needed for safety studies.

10. Research timeliness, complexity, completeness, accessibility, integration, and uniformity of data

11. Research travel time reliability and how traffic data can support the need for travel time

information

12. Review ASTM standards and update standards.

13. Develop a pool-fund study research statement that includes specifically evaluating axle correction factor group development. Need to evaluate current ASTM standards recommendation of grouping by functional class and changing this to improve axle correction factor methods when applying these factors.
