Shearith Israel

Shearith Israel "Remnant of Israel" founded in 1855, consisted of the remnant of Bene Israel that remained Orthodox and opposed the Reforms promulgated by Max Lilenthal. Its rabbis included Bernard Illowy, one of the most learned and influential early Orthodox rabbis in the entire country. - The Jews of Cincinnati by Sarna and Klein

In 1907, Shearith Israel merged with Ahabeth Achim to form the Reading Road Temple. In 1931, it became part of Isaac M. Wise Temple.

On Ruth Lyons Way (formerly Lodge St.) off the 600 Block of Walnut. Today, the building has been redeveloped as condominiums. The building probably survived demolition because it is in an alley This was its location from 1861 - 1882.
