During the skills lab in term 1 you learned about the classroom safety rules.
During this term you will make a product in the workshop. That is why we need to repeat these safety rules.

What: Dump, discuss and share everything you remember about classroom safety rules
How:
In the next years you are going to make some workpieces. Therefore you need to know how to drill, saw, screw and glue. You also will use sharp tools.
To work safely some rules and precautions apply.
General rules:
1. You hang bags on the hook underneath the table of you put your bag in the rack (in the classroom or on the hallway).
2. No eating and drinking.
3. No running or playing around.
4. Work slowly but steady. Rush work is dangerous.
5. Concentrate on your work when working with machines and tools. Don’t distract others when they are working.
6. The stockroom and the cabinet are only for teachers and technical assistants.
7. When something is broken, tell your teacher or technical assistant.
Machines and tools in general
1. Jewellery, rings, necklaces, hoodies, ropes on a sweater can be dangerous. So take them off or put them inside.
2. If you have long hair use a braid or elastic band when you work with machines.
3. There are no stools allowed at the workbenches. You stand while working.
4. You should press the emergency switch if necessary, but only the teacher or technical assistant may turn the electricity back on.
5. The emergency switch is a big red button which is on or near the desk of the teacher in every S-classroom.
Drill
1. You always wear safety glasses.
2. Only a maximum of two students near the drill is allowed.
3. Put thicker material in a clip.
4. Use the right speed off the drill.
5. After use, put the drills back in the right place.
Sander
1. You always wear safety glasses.
2. You work alone.
3. Sanding on the right side of the disk.
4. Sanding is just for the last part of your workpiece. Just to take off the last millimetre.
Saw
1. You always wear safety glasses.
2. Work alone.
3. Hold your workpiece firmly on the plateau.
4. Don't hurry. Let the saw go calm through the material.
5. Only use for wood and plastic. Not for metal.
