Galileo Galilei is called the father of modern science
Below you can read about a couple of discoveries and inventions of Galileo Galilei.
4 moons that turn around Jupiter named after Gallileo.
A device used to determine longitude at sea by observing Jupiter's moons (a sort of a telescope on the deck of a continuously moving ship)
After discovering Jupiter's moons, Galileo tracked their movements for several days. He discovered the micrometer to measure with precision the distance of each moon from the planet.
The galaxy that was discovered by Gallileo. It resembles stars in a “way”.
A compass with two arms to solve the multiplication over circumference, area and corners of a circle.
A design for a clock escapement, invented around 1637. It was the earliest design of a pendulum clock. That is the pendulum hanging under a cuckoo clock.
Pendulums have ideal properties for time keeping. And Galileo Galilei was the first person to properly study these pendulums.
This started when he was in a Cathedral in Pisa, Italy:
Galileo observing the swaying of the chandelier in Pisa Cathedral, 1584. He thought how is it possible that the candelier is going up and fort in a constant rate. That is when he started to wonder about it and finally designed a pendulum to kept his clock going.
This is how his first drawing was look like.
