Before you go out on patrol, make sure you look your best. We are the personification of superheroes, and superheroes look great. Put on that sharp looking uniform and that sparkly ring. Be wearing your best skin and hair. Make sure your shape is not too muscle-bulgy and not too skinny. If you have an Animation Overrider with superhero poses, put it on too. When we're on patrol, people will come to us to report a problem, to ask for help, or maybe just to chat with a superhero. If we look approachable, more people will talk to us than if we look ordinary or just plain weird. In many cases you can pick up new recruits this way. Also before you go out, configure your viewer:

A height of 30 meters above the ground is about right to allow you to fly around without crashing into things, but you can also easily spot what's going on at ground level (not a hard and fast rule; whatever feels best to you is what you should use). When you first TP into the sim, wait for a few seconds to let everything rez around you. Sometimes you can TP into the middle of a major griefer attack, and the porno cubes and the sound file of Hitler shouting "Seig Heil" are the very last things to rez. Your patrol should consist of short flights followed by short pauses, hovering to take a look around you. This allows new parts of the sim to rez in your view, and it also allows residents at ground level time to focus in on you and decide to come and talk to you if they want (your 30 meter height also allows them to see you from ground level). The short flights also allow time for griefers to notice you and to decide whether to attack or flee (either way, you win).
