Having sold the Daphne Blue stratocaster I felt the urge to build me a new stratocaster.
Searching for parts I found a nice pair of p90 pickups. After my experience with the P90's on the Welson hollowbody I saw great opportunities using them on a strat. As most strats have three pickups, which gives you 5 pickup selections I had the idea to place a telecaster neck pickup in between the two p90's. Instead of a 5-way strat switch I wanted to use three seprate on-off mini switches. This way it gives you 7 combinations! Interesting to try out.
I had bought a silver coloured strat body and still had a strat neck lying around.
Building in a third P90 pickup.
The sound of the p90 - tele - p90 combination of pickups was OK, but the balance was not as perfect as I would have hoped. So i decided to buy a third P90 pickup from Wilkinson. I bought te middle pickup (W90M) online from the UK, and I received it in a few days.
To make it fit I had to make a little bit more space in the body, but that wasn't too much work.
Once mounted and connected I was rewarded for my choice. The balance between the three pickups was now perfect.
And the sound of a thee - p90 pickup Strat? In one word:Â AWSOME!!!!
