After building two Telecasters in my own style, and restoring the old Welson guitar, I began working on a new Telecaster style guitar.
I had already bought a body from the US, and a Mighty Mite telecaster neck from Zwier Gitaarbouw in Vlissingen. A nice combination to start with.
The pickups are also from the US, a pair of GFS "Hard Vintage" Neovin Noiseless Tele pickups, bought at www.guitarfetish.com. I decided to try and built a Stratocaster style Tremelo bridge in this Telecaster. To do this I had to use the chisel to make the necessary cavities in the body. Of cause after some careful measuring.
After creating the right spaces I could fix the bridge on the top of the body using six screws. Then it was time to fit the Tremolo spring construction in the back of the body. After this I covered it up with a cover plate. So now the body is already fitted with a functioning Tremolo (a strange name for a system that is actually a vibrato system).
The Mighty Mite neck is fitted with my own "Herman's" logo.
I decided to make a bridge plate for the bridge pickup out of a piece of aluminum tear-plate. It took a while, but the result is satisfying.
After that it was time to design a custom made pickguard. Out of a piece of cardboard I made a sample. The real thing I made out of 3 ply material. It took some filing and sanding to make nice round edges. Of cause later on I also had to make a hole for the neck pickup.
Than it was time to do the electronics. I choose a Fender 4 way switch and a tone and a volume pot.
The trick with the four way switch did not work this time, so later on I places a (normal) 3 way switch.
Maybe later I will try out the 4 way switch again.
And here you see the final result.
I have named it the "Cherrycaster".
