While I was busy building my Telecaster from the Boston kit, my daughter Jorina noticed that I did not use all the material.
"Daddy, can you also built me a guitar?" was her question. "Well, why not." was my answer. "I still have spare parts left".
In the corner of my music room I still had a Stratocaster copy that I once bought for 7,50 (euro's) when I worked at Praxis. This could be the basis of the guitar. But I found it too simple just to spray paint this guitar in Pink.
My Idea was to use the Telecaster hardware I had left and integrate it in the strat body, making it a kind of a crossover.
I did not really trust the quality of the neck, so I bought another one via Marktplaats.nl.
I also had to buy a new pickguard because of the different hardware setting I was planning on this tele-strat. I bought a plain white one, that had no holes yet.
I had to modify and strengthen the body a bit because I was going to use a fixed telecaster bridge, and only two pickups. Some pieces of wood made to fit did the trick. Then I fitted the Tele-bridge, the neck, and a set of strings to try out if my plan was going to work out.And wow, the neck and bridge were fitted just right, and this guitar had potential. Worthwhile to work on.Next thing was to take everything apart again and to sand and ground finish the body. After giving it a groud finish it was time to find the right color of Pink. We managed to find it, right across the street in the paintshop.Look and see:Looked like a real nice color for a girls guitar, doesn't it?
After the pink finish Jorina wanted to paint her own design on the body. It turned out that is was better cutting it out of thick paper and then spray it. So we did. Then we finished the body with two layers of high gloss finish to make it all shine nicely.I had already bought a white stratocaster pickguard which was not pre-drilled yet, so I could make it fit for the telecaster hardware that I was planning on this guitar. When everything was dry and hardened we could finish the guitar. Fit the neck, which I also bought on Marktplaats, and solder the electronics. Finally put a set of 0.10 strings on it, tune it, give it the last adjustments and then: play!Jorina is very proud of having her own 'design' guitar.
