Step 2: Collecting data

    1. You will collect data at least from 5 independent families showing at least one individual diferent from the rest.
    2. Construct a pedigree for each family, showing the phenotypes in black or white.

Remember:

    • Use codes, not the real names of the people, in your study. In genetic studies, the names of the participants is kept as restricted information.
    • Represent each family carefully, following the codes you learnt in the first part of this activity.

Important. Ethical Issues.

Genetic data are sensible material, it's a very personal information, and you must respect some considerations. Be sure to explain properly wich are the goals of your study, and accept if someone refuse. Be also careful when you extract conclusions from your data. Your study is an aproximative model of heredity, and could not work exactly in all cases or families as other genes or allels unknown to you could be interferring in your interpretation. We are working with only 4 heredity models out of more than 10 main heredity models described until now.
