I have been profoundly changed through my 28 years of yoga practice and hope, in my teaching, to spark the flame of awareness, presence, and compassion in my students as they undertake their own explorations of the Self through yogasana. For the last 13 years, I have studied with Peentz Dubble, an Iyengar Certified Level III teacher who has traveled to Pune, over the last thirty years to study with BKS Iyengar, his daughter Geeta and son Prashant. In June 2014, I completed my 500 hr yoga teacher training under the instruction and supervision of Peentz Dubble. In October 2016, after two years of apprenticeship, I passed a rigorous assessment to become a Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor at the Introductory I/II level - a test that required learning how to demonstrate and teach over 80 poses. In September 2019 after three years of mentorship, teaching, practice, and study, I passed the next level of certification Level II. Certification, mentorship, ongoing study with Senior Iyengar Teachers are important in the Iyengar system where senior and junior teachers, and those in training, work together to continually improve and sustain our teaching and practice. In these relationships we become part of a larger community of practitioners committed to devoted practice, self-study, and surrender to the divine.
Namaste,
Lois Joy
