Ever since I was about 8 years old I had always wanted a horse. When I was 10 my mother saw an ad for a grey 10 year old Arabian mare in a magazine, and asked the owner to send us more information about her. We recieved the infomation packet with a video of her about a week later, and we were very suprised to see that the mare's name was LF Sierra Rose. My mom knew she was in trouble at that moment. The mare and I were the same age, AND we had very similar names (Cierra Grace and Sierra Rose). We watched her video, and noticed she would short stride on her right front leg when she would trot. Dispite this issue, I fell in love with this mare, and we purchased her.
For the next three years, Sierra taught me so much about riding, responsibility, teamwork, and commitment. She had been professionally trained, and was an excellent teacher. During these years we looked into her short striding issue, but nothing seemed to improve it much. We tried supplements, corrective shoeing, stretching exercisies, and special diet. We had Xrays done and there was nothing stucturally wrong with her, and she had no arthritis. There was no explaination for her short striding according to our veterinarian.
One day, a friend had suggested we try chiropractic care for her. We had exhausted every other idea so we thought we would give it a try. We took her to a vet in Waconia, MN. He did his evaluation and suggested acupuncture. I was 13 and had never heard of acupuncture, but when he started talking about what he had treated I was amazed. "I even light the needles on fire to help get mares pregnant," he said. I hated needles so I was a little skeptical and nervous about this "acupuncture business". I watched the vet poke these LONG needles into my mare, and was once again amazed. She was so relaxed after the needles were all in! She was practically SLEEPING!
We brought her home and over the next week we were sure we had witnessed a miracle. She was completely cured! She was more fluid and balanced in her movements, and much more comfortable to ride. She seemed happier and more willing when we were practicing and competing. She was perfoming at her full potential, and inturn, I was also. That summer was our best show season we had ever had.
Ten years later, I started acupuncture school, and fell in love with this beautiful ancient medicine. I believed in acupuncture because it helped my horse, but I believed in it even more when it helped me, as well.
I had suffered from severe menstrual cramps for 10 years that had gotten so bad I would often have to leave school because I would get extemely cold to the point my lips would turn purple and would vomit from the intense pain and nausea I was experiencing. The western doctor put me on birth control pills, which helped, but I would still get my severe symptoms off and on.
After starting acupuncture school I went to the student clinic at my school told them about my symptoms. I recieved three treatments and herbal formuals to help with the acupuncture. The following cycle was the first painfree cycle I had my entire life.
From my personal experience with acupuncture and Oriental medince, I continue to see the potential there is for improving the lives of people around the globe. Striving to help people that are suffering, in need of help and giving the best to everyone that enters my door has really proven to be the most exciting, challenging, rewarding experience of my life.
