What is this website?
A collection of detailed information on the He 111 series of aircraft within the video game IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles. While it is desirable to provide the most factual real-world information available, this He 111 Handbook focuses on the characteristics of the Heinkel He 111 as modeled within the aforementioned video game. As such some information is taken directly from in-game code/scripts/descriptions created by the developers. This means that certain information may not be historically accurate with real life components of the He 111 (notably the dimensions/hitbox of the fuel tanks which the developers have ignored for years).
Why?
There are plenty of guides out there that already include info on the He 111, but they are very brief and do not delve into specifics about the aircraft. This handbook seeks to go beyond what is already provided in things such as the IL-2 Forum Aircraft Specifications or Chucks Guides.
Who?
This website is maintained by virtual bomber squadron KG76
Why Google Sites?
Its free and google is recognizably a reputable service provider, plus Google Sites Classic was fairly customizable and flexible in terms of HTML/CSS editing. As Classic sites are being deprecated and archived by 2021 the only option to continue using it was by switching to their "New" format. This "New" Google Sites format is abysmal in customization but it still gets the job done. Also since all of this is free there is no worry about the site going down due to lack of funding.
Why the He 111 Handbook first?
(Yes this is the first entry of this planned series of guides) Bombers are the bottom of the food chain so to speak, both in terms of popularity in being flown and written about. That being said they should be shown more love because the flight sim world is over-saturated with fighter aircraft.
