Matter Manipulation

Matter-manip Arrays

Matter manipulation is handled by billions of coherent streams of photons that take raw materials and slowly push them into the configuration they need to be in to make anything, organic or non-organic. Matter-manip arrays can also be used to disassemble stuff at the molecular level, using more focused streams of photons to not-so-gently push raw materials away from wherever they happen to be. This requires no computational sophistication and much less time and power than the assembly arrays. So of course it’s been weaponized. The weapon only has effect on what it touches initially, requiring sustained contact to affect things below the surface of a ship or person. But a person without their skin doesn’t function very well.

HamScrambler

A handheld matter-manip array designed for disassembly. The array takes matter apart at the molecular level, scattering it into inert particles that usually resemble a pile of dust once settled. The weapon, a product of Silver Bells-and-Whistles Corporation, has a variable width aperture control that allows narrow but deep sub-surface disassembly, or wide area surface only disassembly. The gun is about the size of a standard pistol, and is powered by four A-spec batts. It was originally intended to be named the "Hand Scrambler,” in reference to its size, but the working name was misheard before being sent in a memo to the corporations advertising department. The new name was oddly appropriate, and was never corrected.
