Travel

Harvard University is located in Cambridge, MA. We encourage participants to travel by train, bus, or car.

CUWiP requests that participants ask their departments for travel funding. If you feel uncomfortable doing this, or if your department is unable to provide funding, please be aware that we have extensive travel funding for SPIN UP participants and additional funding for CUWiP participants. If you have questions about this process, or are unsure who to contact within your department, please email us at cuwip2017@g.harvard.edu by November 15!

Once you arrive in Harvard Square, CUWiP check-in will be in the Science Center located at 1 Oxford St; look for the large, white, modern building adjacent to the plaza.  SPIN UP check-in will be in Jefferson Lab, located at 17 Oxford St; look for the large red brick building behind the Science Center. See the map at the bottom of this page.

Please note that we are unable to provide transportation between the hotel and Logan Airport or South Station. Please see below for more info on public transit options for getting to Cambridge.

Train

Trains arrive at Back Bay Station, North Station, or South Station. From there, take a taxi, ride sharing service, or the MBTA subway (known as the T) to Harvard Square. Visit mbta.com for schedules, maps, and rider tools.

Once on the T, take the Red Line to the Harvard Square stop. Once you've gotten off at the stop, there's signs for the "Harvard Square" exit and the "Harvard Yard" exit, follow signs towards Harvard Yard.

Bus

Most long distance buses arrive at the South Station Bus Terminal. From there, take a taxi or ride sharing service or follow the signs for the MBTA station and take the Red Line inbound toward Alewife. Take the train to the Harvard Square stop (visit mbta.com for schedules, maps, and rider tools).

Car

If traveling by car, please note that street parking is very limited in Harvard Square, though parking garages do provide off-street parking for a fee. If you are staying in a hotel provided by the conference, parking is available there. Otherwise parking is available at the Northwest lot. Please check your email for instructions on obtaining a parking permit.

Plane

Flights arrive at Boston’s Logan Airport. The subway, known as the MBTA or the T, provides free service from all Logan Airport terminals to the South Station Red Line stop via the Silver Line Bus Rapid Transit. Take the Silver Line to South Station and transfer to the Red Line inbound toward Alewife. Take the Red Line train to the Harvard Square stop (visit mbta.com for schedules, maps, and rider tools). Look for signs for the Harvard Yard Entrance (see the map below).

The T will also take you from Harvard Square to the airport, tickets cost ~$3 and can be purchased in the Harvard Square T stop.

There are also cabs available. We do not endorse, nor do we have experience with, the following companies. Cabbie's cab seems to have a very high rating in general. Their phone number is  (617) 547-2222. They also take online bookings and do airport pick-ups and drops. Another company with good ratings was the Airport Taxi Cab services,  (617) 201-7886.
