In Digital I worked with a team of 5 other applications support personnel who were responsible for the maintenance, enhancement and upgrading of internal applications and the installation of new systems. Specific personal duties included, in addition to call handling, the design and implementation of program feeders, the understanding and revamping of the local Videotex (VTX) infobase and the total software configuration of a Micro VAX so that a product price enquiry system could be installed.
This required attaining and advancing knowledge of VMS systems management, DECNET and LAT software in addition to applications skills such as COBOL/TDMS, VMS/RDB and ACMS. The job also required an ability to progress multiple tasks in parallel, organise ones time efficiently and a responsive attitude towards end users.
