Guiding Principles of Water Safety on
Hanson’s Lake #3
PROTECT YOURSELF: Avoid dangerous situations on the lake (reckless drivers, swimming too far away from shore, etc.), limit alcohol consumption (protects from dehydration and poor decision making), and use common sense (when in doubt about safety, DON’T).
PROTECT YOUR GUESTS: Make sure everyone on the lake knows Nebraska state laws (use the 2020 Boaters Guide), Hanson’s Lake #3 Safety Rules (available online from Hanson’s Lake #3 website), and observe your guests behavior (make sure children don't swim unattended, stay close to shore, and don't drive too fast near other boats, jet skis, skiers/tubers, have life jackets available for all of your guests, etc).
PROTECT YOUR NEIGHBORS: Don't create a wake when inappropriate (during high water, in the channel), clean off your boat before putting it in the water (clean off zebra mussels and other invasive species), and help if you hear someone calling in distress (call 911 if an emergency, otherwise lend a hand as you are able).
