Summer Update

posted Jul 20, 2016, 7:31 PM by Hampton Pack 177 Cub Scouts   [ updated Jul 20, 2016, 7:34 PM ]

We hope all our scouts are enjoying the summer with their families.  Tonight we met for our Water Bottle Rocket Launch and it was a great success!  We were very excited to be joined by several new scouts and their families.  All the kids had a great time setting off their rockets!

We hope to see everyone for our Annual Planning Meeting which will be held at 6 PM on August 1st at the Congregational Church.  We will discuss and plan activities and events for the 2016-2017 year.  As you all know, the success of our pack depends upon parental involvement and this is everyone's opportunity to shape the coming year.  We have several committee positions open as well as den leader positions available.

On August 26th and 27th we will have our first pack family camp out.   Scouts and their families are invited to join us for hiking, swimming, camp fires and more at Pawtuckaway State Park.  The anticipated cost for the weekend is $22 per child and $32 per adult which includes meals.  Scholarships are available, please email for more information.

We're looking forward to another great year of scouting adventures!

Yours in Scouting,

Jason Masse & Erika Masse
Cubmaster       Achievements Chair

How to Make a Bottle Rocket

by James Jerz in InstructionsOuting

August 11, 2012

At our summer picnic on Sunday (August 19) we’re going to have a lot of fun games and activities for the scouts.  However, one of the things that scouts seem to like the best is launching water-powered bottle rockets.  Now, if you’re not familiar with how to make a bottle rocket, we have you covered.

  • Click here for a link to a NASA website which covers the subject in some detail.
  • Click here for a YouTube video (there are others on YouTube, but this had a high geek factor)
  • Click here for a detailed instructions from a website that many cub scout families have relied on for a few years

Regardless of how you make your design – one key tip is this:  Many designs call for two bottles to be fit together.  Do not cut both of them!  If they are both cut you won’t be able to maintain sufficient pressure to launch.  The bottle that is cut, will fit over the other bottle to give it a nose cone, but isn’t really essential to the design.

Have fun designing your aeronautical masterpiece with your scout – and see you at the picnic.
