Schlehofer

My 5g-grandfather, Krystov SCHLEHOFER was born in Týnec nad Sázavou, a town about 20 km south of Praha (Prague), Bohemia. His son, Jakub, was born there in 1750.

A scene in present day Týnec nad Sázavou

Jakub SCHLEHOFER married Wallburga UBLOVA, from Milov, a small village near Přimda, in the Tachov District, west of Plzen. Milov is only 10 km away from the present border with Germany. Wallburga was born in 1744, so she was about 6 years older. The married on 29 Oct 1770, in Milov, and moved to the area of Srbice and Kristin, two villages near the city of Klatovy. They lived in house #14 had five children.

Týnec nad Sázavou in 1904

Sázavou is the Bohemian Forest, which lies in SW Bohemia, along the border with Germany. Across the border, it is known as the Bavarian Forest. The area is mountainous and rugged, although not part of the Alps. Týnec nad Sázavou means Týnec above Sázavou.

The birth dates of the children are 1763, 1771, 1788, 1789, 1793. If the dates are correct, Barbora must have had a different father, as Jakub was only 13 in 1763.

Pohodny is translated as knacker, or one who takes care of dead animals and pests. There may be a systematic mistake in my interpretation of this database - there can't be so many knackers and no farmers!

Barbora SCHLEHOFEROVA had two husbands. She married Josef RAUFER, at her home in Srbice, on 22 Nov 1790, and they lived in Hostisovice, a village 50 km SE of Plzen. The marriage didn't last long, as she married Martin LANGMAYER 15 months later, on 13 Feb 1972, also at her home in Srbice. Martin and Barbora had at least one child, Anna, born in Bezděkov, 5 km W of Klatovy.

Anna LANGMAYEROVA married Josef KISLINGER, and lived with him in the same house in which he had been born, in Modlin, a village 12 km W of Klatovy. They had 3 children: Barbora, Antonin and Marie. I don't know any more about Barbora KISLINGEROVA.

Katerina SCHLEHOFEROVA, second child of Jakub SCHLEHOFER and Wallburga UBLOVA, married Matej FIERBACH. I don't know if there is a direct relationship between Matej and Martin FIERBACH.

Matej was born near Obytce, 5 km E of Klatovy, the son of Magdalena WOLLMUTOVA and Rehor FIERBACH. I don't know if Matej and Katerina had any children.

Josefa SCHLEHOFEROVA the youngest of five children of Jakub SCHLEHOFER and Wallburga UBLOVA, married Vaclav HOLZKNECHT. They were my 3g-grandparents. Read more about them on the HOLZKNECHT page.

Most of the data on this page comes from the large database on the Genealogie pohodnych v Cechach website, maintained by Josef Vanek. I don't like to trust information form one source, but this seems well-researched, and consistent with other data sources. It has information on 7,528 individuals, so it is a valuable resource for all researchers in Czech genealogy.

I am still learning how to translate the place names, causes of death, and occupations. This page gives a summary, which I have put in my own words. Please consult the Vanek site if you need the first hand information.
