History

Our church has its roots nearly 300 years ago, in the early days of the Methodist movement, and our chapel on Halberton High Street was buit over 200 years ago in 1816.

A Short History of Methodism in Halberton, Devon, was written by Rev Frederick H. Bagwell and first published in 1960 to commemorate  the bi-centenary of John Wesley’s Visit to Halberton  on 1 October 1760.

This updated edition was published to celebrate the re-opening  of the chapel following a major refurbishment in  March 2014. It is free to download for personal use only. Permission for any other use should be sought via the email address below.

We also have a precious collection of artefacts and records, some dating back to the early days of the church, which are held in the archive of the Halberton History Group. For further information contact us at the email address below.
