Dear family and friends,
The first phone call last week was from sister Mary in Walla Walla stating how much she enjoyed the class she is taking on how to write. So, this morning the principal is to have a title. Mine is, today,
"Telephone Calls". The phone rang again shortly and it was from Linda and we, of course, have lots to say about happy things and she mentioned that Suzanne was graduating Saturday, April 24 and she was wondering how we would like it if she came to California and we celebrated here. I thought
"Ooh, what a happy thought that is!" and approved immediately. Next day, phone call from Suzanne and she said, "Grandma, how would you like to celebrate my graduation from college?' I said, "We would be thrilled to pieces." Well, she said that how would it be if she planned on staying a month and a half? I said, "Of course dear, as long as you want." Then, she said, "Well, I already phoned myboss at Java City and he says that he can work me in." So she will be able to earn a little money. Then she said, "l am coming, Grandma, because I want to drive Grandpa to the hospital to have his cataract surgery." I thought, What a sweetheart! So, hardly had she hung up but the next phone call
was from Dale. Great apology due to tremendous things happening in his household. He said that Peter was leaving for Jerusalem on Monday and lo and behold, he needed his visa updated, etcetera, etcetera plus packing. However, he already had heard from Suzanne and Linda and he will pick Suzanne up from the airport Sunday the 26th and bring her here to our home. How kind of Dale with so much going on. Next phone call was towards the end of the week one afternoon, a very happy
voice on the end of the line was Jessica. And, of course I always like to hear from Jessica and Mark! She asked how would we like it if she came alone to visit us while Suzanne was here? By this time I was surprised and delighted. She had found a ticket in the top drawer someplace and had frequent air mileage to add to it and so she plans to come and spend four days with us! So the plot begins to thicken. Mark is very happy about her coming which I think is very great of him. lt is very cool of him.. Jessica said that Suzanne will pick her up at the airport in Grandpa's car. So, the future is plotted but the phone calls still come.
I think it was Good Friday the phone rang and it was Joyce Cary inviting us to share their Easter Sunday dinner with her family and as it was Shirley Klamser's birthday with Shirley and John, too. We had a fabulous time. I particularly wish to comment on how smoothly everything went, three little girls, two old couples and an brand new baby. Those Carys are efficiency experts. I had my first real close-up look at Brock Gregory and announced that he seemed to arrive complete. Everything is there in the tiniest, his little toes so tiny - remarkably laid out. A handsome boy, really, and looks much like his father, really. Of course. our dinner was gourmet, and we sang "Happy Birthday' to Shirley and the children have a new swing set in the back yard which kept them excitedly trying out so all in all a beautiful experience, a very loving happy time for one and all, from infant to old age. lt was really remarkable. We thought a lot on the way home how the Lord loves little children and as this was the trip to Pine Summit, the children as well as the adults had a wonderful time. The meetings we will enjoy as Wally and Dolores gave us tapes of the meetings. So, we will get to enjoy from the Word. I think the story of the resurrection of the Lord is one of our foundation truths that the world
totally ignores.
No more phone calls.
Love,
Jack and Martha
