Note to parents: this site contains a game called Hardc0re (spelled correctly) that despite its name is really quite innocuous. However, the name itself might run afoul of certain parental filters which might block a large portion of the site as a result. If you encounter that situation, you might want to consider whitelisting this site in order to enable it.
GameTeam (formerly JustFreeGames)
The original JustFreeGames site contained only ten Shockwave on-line games. This renamed site is greatly expanded and includes both on-line and downloadable games.
The only downside: the challenging and intriguing Tank Assault is still available, but players must now search harder to find it.
The two scavenger hunt games are both terrific. Click on "Fun & Games" and move your mouse over the haunted house.

Boergens Make24 - Simple graphical display that nevertheless requires Javascript.
RekenWeb Number Card - Java applet. After you have entered your solution, click on the "I can not come closer" button to display your new score.
CoolMath-Games Make24 - Uses playing cards with ace as 1, jack as 11, queen as 12, and king as 13. This game is timed: it allows players only 60 seconds to solve.
Note: In all cases, players must know how to apply parentheses to control the sequence of math operations.
Just eight games presented by the same folks who bring you Rose Art and Magnetix, but Wesley is absolutely captivated by the game "Pyrates."
Make sure that Javascript and cookies are activated and that your screen resolution is set to 1024 x 768 or higher.
Then hover your mouse over the "Kid Zone!" cube. The game listing will then appear in a toolbar immediately below. "Pyrates" is off to the right hand side.
The main site features four links: SOL Games, Puzzlemaker, Spelling City, and an on-line dictionary (Merriam-Webster). The Spelling City is not terribly exciting, but the SOL Games section contains numerous links to educational sites focusing on Virginia history, geography, civics, and economics as well as links to general science, math, and language arts. Most impressive, though, is the Puzzlemaker section which allows users to create 10 different types of puzzles, including word search, mazes, and cryptograms. Check out the math square puzzle: it is both intriguing and challenging. And if you get stuck, all games have a Solution button. Very cool.
Over 120 quizzes, puzzles and games about music.

No descriptions of games are provided; users must therefore explore on a trial-and-error-basis, but that's sometimes half the fun.

Wesley's current favorite: Fish Tycoon.
Over two dozen simple, innocuous games with instructions in German. Knowing that Speilen means "to play" and Speile means "game" should be enough to navigate most of the site and launch games.
NOTE: McAfee Advisor (http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/qplay.de) has found this site to be free of adware and spyware.

With the release of Shrek the Third, the interactive coloring pages have been replaced by a highly commercialized web site. Even so, the game section contains a decent memory game along the lines of the old TV show Concentration
— and best of all, a very nice Sudoku game.
NOTE: For best results, you should activate Javascript and set your screen resolution to 1024 x 768 or above.
It also helps to have a very fast broadband connection. Otherwise, the video clips will pause every few seconds while downloading. If this happens to you, playing the videos a second time (from cache) provides good results.
Over 140 Flash games grouped into the folowing categories: Action, Adventure, Arcade, Misc[ellaneous], Physics, Puzzle, Retro, Shooting, Simulation, Sports, Strategy, and Tower Defense. It is the last category that caught Wesley's attention.

Eleven activities based on Hasbro's Transformers plus eleven additional activities in the Monkeybar.
Over 130 Shockwave Flash games, perhaps the most famous of which is "Defend Your Castle." At the home page, clicking on the "Play Games" tab reveals a list of all the games. By default, they are sorted by number of plays, a crude indicator of popularity. Users can also sort by name, category (Action, Adventure, Puzzle, Role-Playing, Simulation), rating (E[veryone], T[een], and M[ature]), and release date. I could not find any criteria for the site's rating system, but most of the Teen and Mature ratings seem to be based on violence.
A variety of fun games. No recognizable characters, but lots of fun even so.
