Introduction to Human Geography: A Disciplinary Approach is a free eText designed for students enrolled in survey courses in Human/Cultural Geography or US Geography.
This textbook is used by students at California State University, Northridge, and by students at more than a dozen other colleges and universities. Some high schools are using it for AP Human Geography.
Students enrolled in sections using this text scored better on a variety of standard assessment measures than those enrolled in sections using another, very popular, text in 2014.
Instructors and students are welcome to use the text free of charge, but anyone doing so must keep in mind that this text is updated nearly every semester. Please note upload dates for each chapter, so that you may be certain you have the latest update
On the left navigation bar, or the navigation icon in the upper left corner of your screen, you'll find links to individual chapters that you may read online or download as Adobe portable document files (.pdf). The chapters look great on laptops and tablets, and some students even use their smartphones to access the material...though it's not recommended.
The entire textbook (.pdf) is available for download by clicking the cover art. It is Edition 2.1 (2017)
The chapters linked elsewhere may be be newer (edition 2.2) as minor upgrades and edits are completed.
Please consider clicking on the "Donate" page to contribute to the maintenance of this site and the accompanying text. You can help keep it free.
Money saved by students at just Cal State Northridge versus buying new since adoption in Spring 2014
