The Colorado Riverfront Trail in Mesa County, Colorado
Important Fee Info!
Starting January 1, 2019, Colorado State Parks instituted a new fee for their northwest region parks that affect those of us who bicycle or walk into Colorado State Parks, which includes some portions of the Colorado Riverfront Trail. In order to enter a Colorado State Park, a cyclist or walker must either purchase a day use pass for $4.00 PER PERSON or have a Colorado State Parks annual pass. This fee applies even if you want to just fill your water bottles or use the restroom.
This fee does not apply to the Riverfront Trail where it passes through four units of the James M. Robb Colorado River State Park. While there isn't any charge to ride on the Riverfront Trail through these units of the state park, you cannot use any other trails, get water, or use the restrooms at any of the state park units along the Riverfront Trail without paying a fee or having an annual pass.
You can get more information about the Riverfront Trail and activities hosted by the Riverfront Commission by going to riverfrontproject.org. They also have trail maps on that site but their maps aren't geared toward cyclists (pun intended).

Found A Problem Along The Trail?
The Colorado Riverfront Trail system is maintained by a variety of entities. Depending on what portion of the trail you're on, this could be the City of Grand Junction, Mesa County, the City of Fruita, or Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Therefore, if you'd like to report an issue with the trail, you need to know who maintains that part of the trail, which can be confusing. To help with this, I created a series of very simple maps of the Riverfront Trail that shows who maintains where, which can be found here.
