Phd Scholarship: Confinement and Violence in India

Post date: Apr 04, 2011 7:32:36 AM

Copenhagen University and the Rehabilitation and Research Centre for Torture Victims (RCT) are seeking a highly qualified candidate for a PhD project on forms, modes, experiences and economies of confinement with a particular orientation towards prisons and/or urban neighbourhoods. While torture, violence and abuse of human rights in prisons and urban neighbourhoods has been the subject of scholarly explorations, the functional similarities between urban slums and places of detention have received scant attention. The project should broadly speak to themes of confinement, violence and reform in the Indian context.
