Welcome First Years: CRASH COURSE 2025!!!!
As the residency develops a sense of ownership to the residents, you will be asked to participate in its continuous improvement dedicated to improving the care of our patients.
1st years will pair up with a second year to develop a short protocol for common ED presentations. For example, triage assessment of a patient with chest pain would include obtaining an ECG within a short period of evaluation presenting it to the triage doctor and administering an aspirin if the patient is not allergic. You will find here a list of protocol ideas. If you have something specific in mind please discuss it with the residency director early.
The timeline involves picking a topic by the 3rd month of residency and completing it 6 months later. The protocol does not need to involve a written literature research though it does need to be evidence based. You may adapt publicly available protocols. It is most important that the protocol is adapted to our setting, implemented, and modified as needed to ensure a continuous application.
This site contains all the recourses needed to complete your final year research as well as a list and links to all protocols developed in the Emergency Department at GPHC. It also contains links to research that has been done by previous residents.
