Welcome First Years: CRASH COURSE 2025!!!!
Emergency Medicine Faculty Interested in Volunteering at the GPHC EM residency
Thank you for your interest in our program.
Our residency started in October 2010 and is based at the busiest and only public referral hospital in Guyana. Our A&E sees a census of 70K per year of pediatrics and adults with a great breadth of pathology including trauma, chronic diseases, industrial accidents and tropical diseases.
We are interested in visiting attendings and consultants board certified or eligible in Emergency Medicine with international experience and a strong academic background willing to spend at least 2 weeks (4 is preferred) with a wonderful group of eager residents surrounded by amazing pathology in a challenging but gratifying environment. We are particularly interested in doctors exploring a long-term recurring commitment.
Your primary role would be similar to an academic ED where you review cases with the residents and teach during Tuesday conference. We have a dedicated group of residency graduates in the senior registrar role who manage the flow and workup of patients. You are also expected to round with the registrars and support them on the management of complex cases, support them in the flow of the department, and support them in involving consultants and administration when the situation requires. You are not expected to see patients primarily.
For Tuesday conference, you are expected to review the resident's presentation, give comment or feedback on the discussion and present a grand rounds every other week.
Please note that this is program is a full fledged locally accredited residency in emergency medicine and thus our visiting faculty must meet the standards expected of an academic EM attending / consultant. Please understand that we may or may not be able to accommodate your expertise as we have a dedicated core faculty that support many aspects of the programme already.
If you are interested and feel appropriately qualified, please:
email us at gphcemergency@gmail.com with your CV, a letter expressing your interest in working with us, and dates of availability.
do note that all expenses will be the responsibility of the visiting faculty.
allow 3 months to process your paperwork and obtain a temporary Guyanese medical license.
Many thanks.
