2019 - 2020 school year
Please Read all below
Saturday 5/2
This week I will ask you to review the level II Related Rates problems. I have posted notes on our Google Classroom and I have will set up a Zoom session for us if you feel it would help.
AP Exams begin next week, please keep working to prepare yourself for those exams.
This weeks assignment comes from the textbook:
Pages 183 - 184 #16, 17, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27
If you would like to meet in a smaller group, please e-mail me.
***There are several of you that have NOT handed in your assignments, please contact me to explain***
Monday 4/27
I hope everyone is well. I have been sending most of my correspondences to you via e-mail (Olivia, David and Brendan W. still waiting for an e-mail to gkulik@mtsinai.k12.ny.us). I believe that is a better way to communicate. On Saturday, I posted the assignment for this week on Google Classroom. Please work on the assignments.
Soon I will be setting up a Zoom session for all of us to meet. I am waiting for the AP exams to be over, so those of you taking AP's can use your time to prepare. Please let me know if you would like to meet this week in a smaller session, I have several sessions already set for my other classes and will not mind one with you also.
Keep working. The AP exams are only two weeks away!
Sunday 4/19
I hope everyone is well. I have assigned some min/max problems for this week. I have also attached very specific examples to go with the assigned problems. Please go to our Google Classroom for the notes and the assignment.,
The 4th quarter is now beginning. I am not sure how the district is going to instruct us to grade you this quarter, but I will need your work. Most of you have been handing in assignments and I thank you for your hard work. A few of you are going through things that I pray will turn out well. I hope I have been understanding on missed or late assignments up to this point, but I will need something to work with moving forward.
Please e-mail me if there is something I should be aware of, and for those who have reached out, you know I am praying for your loved ones.
Be safe. I miss you guys and I hope we will be together soon.
Saturday 4/11
Thank you to all that handed in their assessment for last week. There are a couple of you that still have to get it into me. If there is something that I should be aware of, please e-mail me directly. I would like Olivia, David and Brandan W. to e-mail me (gkulik@mtsinai.k12.ny.us). I am setting up a group e-mail. I would like to communicate with you that way. I have been doing Zoom meetings with the AB and BC classes. I would like to see if that is something you all would be interested in yet.
Last week I asked you to work with derivatives and basic integration. This week's assignment is to use derivatives to graph. I've provided a review in our Google Classroom. I am asking you to graph 5 problems for me and submit them by the end of the week. The review should provide enough to help you remember. Feel free to use searches or Khan Academy if you need to or e-mail me directly. I will help you that way as well.
Keep positive. I understand this sucks. I am praying that you and your families are all safe and we get through this sooner that later. I miss you guys.
Wednesday 4/8
Good morning. I hope that you are staying strong. Thank you for those who have submitted this weeks assessment. Please e-mail me if you are having difficulties or if there are circumstances that I need to be aware of. Unfortunately, we have families going through some tough times.
I have been meeting with the AP students on Zoom. I know that there are some issues with Zoom, so I am looking into other platforms to meet. If you feel that a meeting with me for Calculus this week would be helpful, please e-mail me. I will gladly set up a time to "see" you guys. Miss you.
Monday 6/6
I am still asking David, Olivia and Brendan Williams to e-mail me at gkulik@mtsinai.k12.ny.us I'd like to hear how they are doing. If you know how to reach them, please ask them to e-mail me.
Monday 4/6
Good morning. I am still looking for Brenden P. to sign into our Google Classroom and hand in last week's essay. Please let me know if there were circumstances that I should know about.
This week I will be assigning a review assessment. It is posted on our Google Classroom. Please use your notes, your textbook or any searches to help. I have also posted a review sheet very similar to the assessment with all the problems worked out for you. If you have any questions, please e-mail me. I have set up Zoom "office hours/extra help" sessions for my other classes. Please let me know if that format would help you too.
Be safe. According to the experts, we are close to getting over the hump. Unfortunately, the deaths lag a little behind. We can hope and pray that this stops soon. I miss you guys.
Friday 4/3
Good morning. Thank you to all have submitted your essay. The rest of you, please get it into me today. Most have submitted through Google Classroom, some have e-mailed it to me. Either way is fine.
Below is an e-mail I sent out to my AP students last evening. Some of it you might find interesting if you are taking any AP exams.
Have a nice day!
Good evening all,
I just watched the head of the College Board in a webinar for AP teachers. He gave us some information that I wanted to share with you.
AB and BC will be Free Response problems like we are used to.
You will be able to take a picture of your work and upload it to your device (probably your computer for all of you)
You will receive a guide and practice simulations on how this will all work in late April, and hopefully some practice problems
Our new test date: May 12th 2 pm eastern The entire world will take it during the same time slot
You can use notes, internet searches, textbooks, and calculators. Obviously, no personal help
They are using fraud soft wear to make sure you do not go into a chat room. They have state of the art security mechanisms to detect cheating. This is the only way they would offer the exam, they are sure they will detect problems. They also insisted that if you are caught, notification that you cheated will be sent to your colleges.
BIG ONE: Teachers will get a copy of your exam by May 26th. This will allow teachers to use the exam as your FINAL exam. Didn't say if they will be graded by then. Of course, that has to be run by the school first.
You will have a security question to answer before you can get each question
They are suggesting that if you planned on taking the exam, still take the exam. Colleges are all on board to still provide the same credit.
If you have an IEP already registered with the AP, you will get the extra time already granted.
I am still looking for the following to join our Google Classroom (code eis2d7u ) and send me a an e-mail
Brenden P.
In addition, the following please e-mail me at gkulik@mtsinai.k12.ny.us I'd like to hear how you are doing and complete a group e-mail list. Google Classroom does not allow me to see the e-mail address you signed in with.

There is an assessment posted on Google Classroom, due Friday. A brief essay on the coronavirus crisis. I have been asked about the essay, what I am looking for? I am looking for some facts and some feelings. There are several options to write about, but feel free to write about anything you find relevant. (additional examples: Home schooling pros and cons, stay at home orders, depression, the great medical professionals, how does this differ from an actual war, and so on).
Be safe. Be smart.
Have a nice day
Monday 3/30
Good morning. Thank you to all who have signed into your Google Classroom. Google code is eis2d7u . I see that Trevor and Zach have signed into the Google Classroom, thank you. If you could, please e-mail me at gkulik@mtsinai.k12.ny.us. I am trying to put together a group e-mail to better communicate.
I have now been in contact either by e-mail or on Google Classroom with 7 of you. Please I need to hear from everyone. If you are reading this, e-mail me if you haven't done so and please help me by reaching out to your classmates.
Aside from Trevor and Zach, I've only heard from Tim, Dan, Claudia, Louis, and Bhavana.
I am responsible to keep you responsible. I have assigned a very relevant assessment this week. Please take it seriously, I am 57 years old and have never lived through anything like this. I'd really like to hear your thoughts on it.
Be safe. Be smart.
Sunday 3/29
Good afternoon,
I have been working very hard on this distance learning stuff. I have created a Google Classroom for your class. The Google code for our class is 7pjql2p . I am also including the assignment on the bottom of this e-mail. The due date for the assignment is this Friday. I really think we can come up with some thoughtful things. As you can see, I've only heard from 5 of you. Please get the word out, I know you have been trying, but maybe if an assignment is due, the MIA (missing in action) will appear.
Hopefully, everyone will join the Google Classroom and submit the assignment that way, but of course, you can e-mail me your response as well.
Stay safe. Stay smart.
Always keep smiling!
Mr. Kulik
You are to write a short essay/report on the current coronavirus. The following options to consider (do not do all):
1. A mathematical look at the spread of the virus. Using the number of cases (or deaths), see how it follows an exponential curve and hopefully soon will become a logistic curve.
2. The economic impact of the virus.
3. The psychological toll it is taking on people.
4. The stress on the medical profession.
5. The governments response to the needs of the states.
6. Changes you hope this might bring to our society.
7. Any relevant topic.
Sunday 3/29
Good morning. I am looking to put together a group e-mail to better communicate with you. I have only heard from Tim, Dan, Claudia, and Bhavana. Please e-mail me at gkulik@mtsinai.k12.ny.us. I am working on an assignment for this week.
Friday 3/27
I am getting the feeling that most of you have not been visiting this site. I would like you all to e-mail me. You know that I care about each and every one of you and would like to hear that you are safe. I'd also like to set up a group e-mail to better communicate with you.
I have heard from Tim P. and Dan H. Thank you to them and I am happy to say that they are fine.
Please read all of the information below and try to complete the assignments. I am working on some sort of assessment for next week. Perhaps a short essay or report on the current corona virus from the perspective of an exponential graph eventually becoming an logistic graph or just the social/economic disturbances. More to come.
Please reach out. We need to communicate.
Have a nice weekend!
Thursday 3/26
I hope everyone is well. Please keep up with the textbook work. I am working on future assignments and ways to assess you.
I would like you all to e-mail me. I'd like to hear how you are doing, and I would like to set up an e-mail group to better communicate with you. The school e-mail system is having some difficulties, so if you don't hear from me immediately, be patient. I check my e-mail about 50 times a day (yes I am bored) and I will get back to you soon.
Be safe, be smart.
Tuesday 3/24
For those of you reading these messages for the first time, please read through all the messages. I have been reviewing material and will be suggesting some on-line material and/or more textbook work for you to view shortly. In the meantime, follow the assigned work from the textbook. Also, thank you to all of you that have reached out to me via e-mail, a reminder that I would like to hear from all of you. There seems to be a slight problem with the school's e-mail system, so if you don't hear from me, be patient, I will get back to you all. Be safe!
Saturday 3/21
As we are all aware, things have not turned for the better as of yet. They will, I pray every day for it.
You may have noticed, I changed the dates for the assignments below. Officially, we were using snow days last week, but this week we are is session. If you are taking any AP courses this year, I would suggest you go onto the AP student website too see their announcements. Beginning Monday, they will be providing live review sessions on line, you need to check the schedule.
I would like to hear from you and make sure you are safe. Please e-mail me so I know we are all on board to do this
Monday 3/16
Good afternoon. I hope you all read my comments on the home page. I know as much as you do about our return to school. We have not been given a date to return or any information about Regents/AP exams. For now, I'd like you to follow the schedule below.
I think we will all agree that this is not ideal, but this is the hand we've been dealt. We have to make it work.
Please be safe, be smart and check in on your family and neighbors.
I am going to ask you to do a review of logarithms and exponents this week. This is material you did in Algebra II and again in Pre-Calculus. We will need these basic skills to do problems involving derivatives and integrals. You may have to review, please use your text book or go on-line to seek help. If you need to reach me, please e-mail me.
