2019 - 2020 school year
Saturday 5/2
This week I will be introducing Physics, linear motion. I have posted notes on our Google Classroom and I have set up a Zoom session for us, once again, on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
AP Exams begin next week, please keep working to prepare yourself for those exams.
This weeks assignment comes from the textbook:
Pages 242-243 #1, 2, 11, 12, 13, 22
If you would like to meet in a smaller group, please e-mail me.
***There are several of you that have NOT handed in your assignments, please contact me to explain***
Monday 4/27
I hope everyone is well. I have been sending most of my correspondences to you via e-mail. I believe that is a better way to communicate. On Saturday, I posted the assignment for this week on Google Classroom. Please work on the assignments.
I have set up a Zoom session for Wednesday at 4:00 pm for us to meet. I will be discussing meeting more frequently once the AP's are over. Please let me know if you would like to meet this week in a smaller session, I have several sessions already set.
Keep working. The AP exams are only two weeks away!
Sunday 4/19
I hope everyone is well. I have assigned some theorem problems for this week. I have also attached very specific examples to go with the assigned problems. Please go to our Google Classroom for the notes and the assignment. I have set up a Zoom Meeting for 4:00 pm on Wednesday to review the notes and answer any questions. I will send you the information in an e-mail on Wednesday.
The 4th quarter is now beginning. I am not sure how the district is going to instruct us to grade you this quarter, but I will need your work. Most of you have been handing in assignments and I thank you for your hard work. A few of you are going through things that I pray will turn out well. I hope I have been understanding on missed or late assignments up to this point, but I will need something to work with moving forward.
Please e-mail me if there is something I should be aware of, and for those who have reached out, you know I am praying for your loved ones.
Be safe. I miss you guys and I hope we will be together soon.
Saturday 4/11
I hope all of you are holding up well. I have posted another assessment on our Google Classroom. In addition, please review the notes I've posted on Related Rates level II

Wednesday 4/8
Good morning. I hope that you are staying strong. Thank you for those who have submitted this weeks assessment. Please e-mail me if you are having difficulties or if there are circumstances that I need to be aware of. Unfortunately, we have families going through some tough times.
I have been meeting with the AP students on Zoom. I know that there are some issues with Zoom, so I am looking into other platforms to meet. If you feel that a meeting with me for Pre-Calc this week would be helpful, please e-mail me. I will gladly set up a time to "see" you guys. Miss you.
Sunday 4/5
Good afternoon. I was very impressed with many of your essays. I may ask some of you for permission to share certain parts of them with the class. I will let you know if I am interested in yours.
I am working on this distance learning stuff.
I just posted some of my notes in Google Classroom dealing with related rates. Please excuse me if something doesn't sound right, I am working on it. There are also Khan Academy videos to watch.
The assignment for this week:
Page 182-183
#1,3,9,11,13,15 (the answers are in the back of the book and I am sure you can find them online as well)
You can also try #2-14 even for additional support
I know that I have been a little light on you (I haven't heard any complaints). I have been trying to get this AP stuff together. It has been quite a challenge. I have set up Zoom meetings with the BC and AB for "office hours/extra help". I will be doing so with you as well. I will e-mail you the log in information and the time as soon as I set it up.
We will all get through this.
Be safe. Be smart.
Friday 4/3
Good morning. Thank you to all have submitted your home quiz and your essay. The rest of you, please get it into me today. Most have submitted through Google Classroom, some have e-mailed it to me. Either way is fine.
Below is an e-mail I sent out to my AP students last evening. Some of it you might find interesting if you are taking any AP exams.
Have a nice day!
Good evening all,
I just watched the head of the College Board in a webinar for AP teachers. He gave us some information that I wanted to share with you.
AB and BC will be Free Response problems like we are used to.
You will be able to take a picture of your work and upload it to your device (probably your computer for all of you)
You will receive a guide and practice simulations on how this will all work in late April, and hopefully some practice problems
Our new test date: May 12th 2 pm eastern The entire world will take it during the same time slot
You can use notes, internet searches, textbooks, and calculators. Obviously, no personal help
They are using fraud soft wear to make sure you do not go into a chat room. They have state of the art security mechanisms to detect cheating. This is the only way they would offer the exam, they are sure they will detect problems. They also insisted that if you are caught, notification that you cheated will be sent to your colleges.
BIG ONE: Teachers will get a copy of your exam by May 26th. This will allow teachers to use the exam as your FINAL exam. Didn't say if they will be graded by then. Of course, that has to be run by the school first.
You will have a security question to answer before you can get each question
They are suggesting that if you planned on taking the exam, still take the exam. Colleges are all on board to still provide the same credit.
If you have an IEP already registered with the AP, you will get the extra time already granted.
No AB subscore for BC. The BC exam will only test BC material!
A BC student can choose to take the AB test instead, but that has to be coordinated through the high school.
I will have a little more details tomorrow when that send me an e-mail summary.
Thursday 4/2
Good morning!
There have been some terrific essays submitted. Keep working on the essay and the home quiz. I will be posting some of my notes on Related Rates soon. Please watch the Khan Academy videos for a general introduction to Related Rates.
Be safe. Be smart.
Wednesday 4/1
Good morning!
Thank you all for getting in touch with me and for signing into our Google Classroom. We are now at 100%. Remember that you have two assignments due this Friday.
Keep working. Be safe. Be smart. There were some very sobering numbers presented by the president and the task force yesterday. We will get through this.
Tuesday 3/31
Thank you for all that have signed into Google Classroom. Thank you to all who have reached out to me via e-mail (Connor Williams please e-mail me at gkulik@mtsinai.k12.ny.us ) I have put together a group e-mail so I can communicate a little better with you.
There are two assessments posted on Google Classroom, both due Friday. A quiz on min/max and a brief essay on this coronavirus crisis. I have been asked about the essay, I am looking for some facts and some feelings. There are several options to write about, but feel free to write about anything you find relevant. (additional examples: Home schooling pros and cons, stay at home orders, depression, the great medical professionals, how does this differ from an actual war, and so on).
Have a nice day
Monday 3/30
Thank you for all of you that have signed into your Google Classroom. I have assigned two assessments for this week, a home quiz on min/max and a brief essay. Please use your time wisely and keep up with all your assignments, especially all of your AP work.
The following have not signed into the Google Classroom:
Jackson M.
Kaitlyn Z.
If you cannot sign in, please reach out to me.
The following is still MIA (missing in action). Please reach out to him for me
A.J. Volkmann
* Connor Williams, I see that you've joined the Google Classroom, thank you. Please e-mail me at gkulik@mtsinai.K12.ny.us I am trying to set up a group e-mail to better communicate with you guys.
Sunday 3/29
Good afternoon,
I have been working very hard on this distance learning stuff. I have created a Google Classroom for your class. The Google code for our class is 64zfael . I am asking for two assessments this week. First is a short home quiz on Min/Max problems. That is posted in Google Classroom, so please sign into the class. I am also including a second assignment on the bottom of this e-mail. The due date for the assignment is also Friday. I really think we can come up with some thoughtful things. As you can see, I have not heard from all of you. Please get the word out, I know you have been trying, but maybe if an assignment is due, the MIA (missing in action) may appear.
Hopefully, everyone will join the Google Classroom and submit the assignment that way, but of course, you can e-mail me your response as well.
Stay safe. Stay smart.
Always keep smiling!
Mr. Kulik
Assignment #2
You are to write a short essay/report on the current coronavirus. The following options to consider (do not do all):
1. A mathematical look at the spread of the virus. Using the number of cases (or deaths), see how it follows an exponential curve and hopefully soon will become a logistic curve.
2. The economic impact of the virus.
3. The psychological toll it is taking on people.
4. The stress on the medical profession.
5. The governments response to the needs of the states.
6. Changes you hope this might bring to our society.
7. Any relevant topic.
Sunday 3/29
Good morning. I am looking to put together a group e-mail to better communicate with you. Below are the 8 students who haven't yet reached out. Please e-mail me at gkulik@mtsinai.k12.ny.us. I am working on an assignment for this week. I will be posting it later today.
I have created a google classroom for you to get assignments, watch videos that I've posted and try to do something with assessments.
The code to join is 64zfael.
Friday 3/27
Good morning. Thank you to all of you who have reached out to me. I am very happy to report that you all are doing well. Most of you are bored, me too, but this is what we have to deal with.
I still have not heard from the following:
Connor Williams
A.J. V.
If you are on the list above, please e-mail me. I would like to hear how you are doing and that you are safe. I am also setting up a group e-mail to better communicate with you.
In the meantime, make sure you complete this week's assignments. I am working on a way to distance teach (not a fan). Until that point, I will be assigning textbook work.
Have a nice weekend!
Thursday 3/26
Hi all. I have been working on future assignments and ways to assess you. Be patient, you all know how tech savvy I am. In the meantime, please do the assignments from the textbook.
Thank you to all those that have reached out to me via e-mail. I would like to hear from all of you. If you have not done so yet, please e-mail me. I'd like to hear how you and your families are and I would like to set up an e-mail group to better communicate with you. The e-mail system at school is experiencing some difficulties, so if you don't hear from me right away, be patient. I check my e-mail about 50 times a day (yes I am bored), I will get back to you as soon as I can.
At this time of the year, I normally slow a bit to allow you to better prepare for your AP exams. I will ask for the effort back next year when you take mine (exclude you seniors). So, although it is different this year, please work very hard to get ready for your AP's.
Be safe, be smart.
Tuesday 3/24
For those of you reading these messages for the first time, please read through all the messages. I have been reviewing material and will be suggesting some on-line material and/or more textbook work for you to view shortly. In the meantime, follow the assigned work from the textbook. Also, thank you to all of you that have reached out to me via e-mail, a reminder that I would like to hear from all of you. There seems to be a slight problem with the school's e-mail system, so if you don't hear from me, be patient, I will get back to you all. Be safe!
Saturday 3/21
As we are all aware, things have not turned for the better as of yet. They will, I pray every day for it.
You may have noticed, I changed the dates for the assignments below. Officially, we were using snow days last week, but this week we are is session. If you are taking any AP courses this year, I would suggest you go onto the AP student website too see their announcements. Beginning Monday, they will be providing live review sessions on line, you need to check the schedule.
I would like to hear from you and make sure you are safe. Please e-mail me so I know we are all on board to do this.
Monday 3/16
Good afternoon. I hope you all read my comments on the home page. I know as much as you do about our return to school. We have not been given a date to return or any information about Regents/AP exams. For now, I'd like you to follow the schedule below.
I think we will all agree that this is not ideal, but this is the hand we've been dealt. We have to make it work.
Please be safe, be smart and check in on your family and neighbors.
This week assignments deal with Applied Min/Max problems. I spent two days in class introducing the problems, please do the best you can to follow. Feel free to use your textbooks or explore on line options to see the problems worked out, sometimes these problems are titled "Optimization". Good luck. If you need to contact me, please e-mail me.
