2019-2020 school year
Saturday 5/2
Good morning. I will be providing you with problems this week in three groups (go to our Google Classroom). The first is a practice exam "ADVANCEKENTUCKY 2020" . I am attending a grading webinar on Monday afternoon for this exam. Please try to do find the 45 minutes needed to do this by Monday evening. I will send you those answers after the webinar.
Early on Monday, I will provide you with problems that I will be going over in Tuesday's Zoom review at 4:00 pm.
Early on Wednesday, I will provide you with problems that I will be going over in Thursday's Zoom review at 4:00 pm.
Remember there is also our "Yellow Board" review next Saturday beginning at 3:00 pm.
If you would like to meet in a smaller group, please e-mail me. We are 9 days away!
***There are several of you that have NOT handed in your assignments, please contact me to explain***
Monday 4/27
I hope everyone is well. I have been sending most of my correspondences to you via e-mail. I believe that is a better way to communicate. On Saturday, I posted the assignment for this week on Google Classroom. Please work on the assignments and watch the AP live lessons every weekday. As I've said many times, they are providing great problems unique to this year. The next 10 days are even more important to watch, all review with problems designed for the special circumstances this year.
I have set up a Zoom session for Thursday at 4:00 pm for us to meet. I will be discussing meeting more frequently with specific topics review for the last 10 days. Please let me know if you would like to meet this week in a smaller session, I have several sessions already set.
Keep working. The test is only two weeks away!
Tuesday 2/21
Good morning. Please watch the AP live lessons. So far this week, they are on the easier side. You might want to download their practice problems for practice. They post the answers in the evening.
Thank you for all who have asked for smaller sessions. You should have gotten an e-mail from me with the time and the log in information.
Saturday 4/18
This week I've posted 5 of the 2019 AB Secure Exam Part II problems in our Google Classroom.. In addition, I would like you to try the following problems ( many of which you've already done):
2019 Exam #1, #2 a,b,c, #3, #4 a,b, #6
2018 Exam #1, #2 a,c,d, #3, #4, #5, #6a,b
I will meet with you once again on Thursday evening at 4:00 pm. I will e-mail you the log in and password.
If you would like to meet with me in a smaller Zoom session, please e-mail me.
Keep working!!!
Tuesday 4/14
Good morning. Please take a look at the AB live lesson from yesterday. It's on limits. It was the first day of official review. If you can get over their corny jokes, it was pretty good. They also discuss the Squeeze Theorem.
Exam is 4 weeks from today.
Today's lesson is on derivatives.
Saturday 4/11
Good morning. Thank you for all joining the Zoom meeting this past week. It really picks me up when I can "see" you guys for a little bit. I am going a bit crazy stuck inside.
Below are the 10 AP problems I've assigned this week. These are Miscellaneous (Frankenstein) problems. They cover a great amount of material, please feel free to do a search for help. They will be on the tougher side. I will go over any questions on Thursday, or e-mail me and I will do the best I can to help.
This week is the official beginning of the AP review on the AP live channel. Please watch the reviews. The two teachers are a little corny and slowish, but good. As you watch, make sure you fine tune your "yellow boards". You should have a large amount of review material with you when you that the exam, the trick is watching your time and not relying too much on your review material.
Week of April 13 - 17:

Wednesday 4/8
Good morning. The AP live lessons are very helpful. They are really worth watching, please do so.
I set up a meeting for Thursday at 4:00 pm. I sent you an e-mail with the link and password. Let me know if you didn't get it.
Some teachers have shared with me that some of their sessions have been crashed by other Mt. Sinai students, so I will send you the log in and code via e-mail to try to avoid any "meeting crashers".
Monday 4/6
Make sure you watch the AP live lesson. Now that we have a better idea of what is on the exam, today they begin the official review.
Sunday 4/5:
Good morning. I have assigned you an assessment on Google Classroom. I have also provided it below. I would like you to do the 10 AP problems listed on Modeling and Physics. I understand that the Physics has been limited, but we can do it. Use your calculator on all problems.
When you are finished, I would like you to upload pictures of your work and submit it to me on Google Classroom.
I will be holding a Zoom "Q and A" session on Thursday at 4:00 pm. During this extra help, I will answer questions the best I way I can. The assessment is due on Friday. I will e-mail you the access code. I tried a session with BC last week, I guess it went well?
Below is also my master schedule plan for the next five weeks. I will add more Zoom sessions as we go.
We will get through this. Keep an eye out for the AP material being sent to you. They should be sending you some sample problems. I believe that second problem will be just like what we've been doing. The first will be some sort of Frankenstein problem or Misc. Problem putting different parts from all over together.
Please reach out to me with any issues. I miss all you guys.
Please take pictures of your work for the 10 assigned Free Response problems on Modeling and Physics and submit to Google Classroom

Question #1: 60% value 25 minutes
Question #2: 40% value 15 minutes
You will have 5 minutes after #1 to upload it to the college board
You will have 5 minutes after #2 to upload it to the college board
You cannot go back to #1 once you move onto #2.
I will let you know if I receive any more information.
Have a nice day!
Mr. Kulik
Friday 4/3
Good morning, below is a copy of the e-mail I sent to you last night. Please watch you AP live lesson and finish up the Derivative Graph problems.
Good evening all,
I just watched the head of the College Board in a webinar for AP teachers. He gave us some information that I wanted to share with you.
AB and BC will be Free Response problems like we are used to.
You will be able to take a picture of your work and upload it to your device (probably your computer for all of you)
You will receive a guide and practice simulations on how this will all work in late April, and hopefully some practice problems
Our new test date: May 12th 2 pm eastern The entire world will take it during the same time slot
You can use notes, internet searches, textbooks, and calculators. Obviously, no personal help
They are using fraud soft wear to make sure you do not go into a chat room. They have state of the art security mechanisms to detect cheating. This is the only way they would offer the exam, they are sure they will detect problems. They also insisted that if you are caught, notification that you cheated will be sent to your colleges.
BIG ONE: Teachers will get a copy of your exam by May 26th. This will allow teachers to use the exam as your FINAL exam. Didn't say if they will be graded by then. Of course, that has to be run by the school first.
You will have a security question to answer before you can get each question
They are suggesting that if you planned on taking the exam, still take the exam. Colleges are all on board to still provide the same credit.
If you have an IEP already registered with the AP, you will get the extra time already granted.
I will have a little more details tomorrow when that send me an e-mail summary.
Thursday 4/2
Good morning. That you for all signing into our Google Classroom. (Nikita, please e-mail me) I will be posting an assessment next week.
For now, keep watching AP live at 2 pm and please complete the Derivative Graphs and Chart/Riemann Sums Free Response problems I've assigned.
I should know a little bit more about the format of the AP Exam this evening.
Wednesday 4/1
Good morning!
Hope you are keeping up with the daily lessons. Nikita could you please send me an e-mail. I'd like to finish the group e-mail list.
I have signed up for a live web session for AP teachers given by the AP top guns tomorrow evening. I should get some information about the format of the exam then.
Keep working. Be Safe. Be smart. There were some very sobering numbers presented by the president and the task force yesterday. We will get through this.
Tuesday 3/31
Good morning. Thank you to all who have reached out to me and who have signed into our Google Classroom.
I am sorry to keep repeating this, but I still have not heard from Nikita.
If you have his phone number, please have him e-mail me at gkulik@mtsinai.k12.ny.us and join our Google Classroom at win7bxn .
Adham I am still waiting for you to join our Google Classroom.
Keep watching the AB live lesson at 2 pm daily (AP YouTube Channel). It is also recorded. We will find out Friday about the exact format, but I would guess that Chart Problems and Derivative Graphs will be on the test. Keep working on those (those assignments are listed below).
Soon I am going to post an assignment on Google Classroom. I'd like to give some assessments to help some of your grades. Keep checking our Google Classroom.
Have a nice day
Monday 3/30
Good morning. Thank you to all of you who have signed into your new Google Classroom. Google code win7bxn . Isabel, Emily, Jill and Jackie B. are not showing up as joined yet. If you have a problem with the code, let me know.
I am getting a bit frustrated with and worried about how some of you are doing. I have not heard from the following:
Justin A.
Joe B.
Matt C.
Alyssa C.
Chris F.
Luke M.
Justin S.
Adham S.
Nikita S.
If you can, please contact any of the above and let them know that I would like them to e-mail me at gkulik@mtsinai.k12.ny.us
Please keep up with the AB AP live lessons at 2 pm daily (also recorded). Go to AP YouTube Channel if you haven't done so yet. This week you are responsible to work on Derivative Graph problems. See all assignments below.
Be safe. Be smart.
Sunday 3/29
Again, please help me find the missing students. I've only heard from 8 of you. I need help locating the others, please reach out to them if you know their phone numbers or e-mails.
This week I am asking you to review Derivative Graphs. I hope you are all experts on Chart problems. If not, see the list of last week's assignments. Remember that you will have use of a calculator, not really needed with derivative graphs, so I would guess this is a nice topic for the AP to test. Keep working on your "Yellow Board". The exam will also be open notes, our "Yellow Board".
So what do I expect you to be doing?
1. Watching the AB live lesson daily at 2 pm (it is recorded). AP YouTube Channel. That is our class time.
2. To review for the AP exam, do the problems I assign.
3. Create your "Yellow Board".
4. If you can, create a face time group or some other social media platform to help each other. Maybe a group chat at a scheduled time would work best.
5. We will know more Friday, but you will be responsible to go to College Board and pick a test date, etc. I and/or the school cannot do it!
6. Keep positive. We have worked hard for this, you have been taught all the material, most of which we did twice. You will be fine if you work for it.
This weeks problems, I've tried to start off a little easier and get more difficult throughout the week.

Good morning. I am looking to put together a group e-mail to better communicate with you. I have only heard from Andrew, Sami, Jake R., Isabel, Emily, Taylor, Jill, Ashley, and Jake G.. Please e-mail me at gkulik@mtsinai.k12.ny.us. I am working on an assignment for this week. I will be posting it later today.
Friday 3/27
Sorry guys, the lesson today on slope fields takes 45 minutes to do what we did in 10. Like part (a) of a Part II problems. Fast forward through it, make sure you can do the slope fields. I will be posting AP Part II problems for next week soon.
Friday 3/27
Good morning. I am getting a feeling that many of you are not checking this site. We need to be in this together. I have heard from the following people:
Andrew K.
Sami C.
Jake R.
Isabel C.
Emily P.
Tayler C.
Jill M.
Jake G.
Ashley C.
If you need me to do the math, that's only 8 out of the 22 of you. Please e-mail me, you know that I worry about all of you and want to hear that you are safe. I'd also like to set up an e-mail group so I can communicate better with you.
In the meantime, please keep working on Chart/Riemann sums problems (see below). Remember to be writing your "Yellow Board" and to be viewing the AB live lesson at 2 pm (also recorded). Today is on Slope Fields.
Thursday 3/26
I just watched the AB lesson 2. Really not bad. You should watch. Tomorrow are slope fields, you should get used to watching every day.
Wednesday 3/25
Well, today's AB AP lesson was a little elementary for us, we covered this material last year. I was expecting a little more Modeling like we did recently. Oh well. Please plan on watching the AP lesson every day. Today, the BC would have been a better watch. Keep working on the Chart problems.
Wednesday 3/25
Hello again. I just watched the BC lesson. It was a bit slow, but it is worth watching. The material was on Parametric physics (BC topic), but if you break it down to each direction separately, it is rectilinear (AB). You are responsible for physics where you take a derivative. The warm up and the first two examples would be worth viewing you are responsible for.
I will be watching the AB lesson later. I will update you after that viewing.
Wednesday 3/25
Good morning. I am about to watch the BC on-line lesson that begins at 9 am. I will see how useful the lessons will be for us. Remember, the AB on-line lesson will begin at 2:00 pm. I was able to access it at AP YouTube channel . It is being recorded, so you can view it later.
The AB lesson is on Modeling and Separable Differentials.
You are doing Chart problems this week, a good resource would be to look at Unit 6.2 and 6.3 on AP Classroom. They are a review of Riemann Sums/Chart problems.
I will update this later. Be safe.
Tuesday 3/24
Reminder: Review sessions on AP Central begin tomorrow
AB 2:00 - 2:45
For those of you reading these messages for the first time, please read through all the messages. I have been reviewing all the College Board material and will be suggesting some material for you to review shortly. In the meantime, follow the assigned AP Part II's on Chart problems. Also, thank you to all of you that have reached out to me via e-mail, a reminder that I would like to hear from all of you. There seems to be a slight problem with the school's e-mail system, so if you don't hear from me, be patient, I will get back to you all. Be safe!
Monday 3/23
I have just reviewed the AB material on the AP teachers site. It looks like the following topics will not be on the exam:
No Multiple Choice
No Area/Volume
No Average Value
Physics only where you only go down (either given position or velocity and only take derivatives)
Officially we should have a better look on or about April 3.
So, as I see it, a 45 minute exam will allow for only 3 free response problems (unless they adjust with shorter free response)
The following Part II's are still on their list:
Chart - Riemann Sums
Derivative Graphs
Physics (only where we take a derivative)
Modeling
Slope Field/ Separable Differential
Misc. / Frankenstein problem (bits and pieces from all over maybe using the theorems)
I will be putting together a schedule for the adjusted review. One big thing to remember, it is open notes. A summary sheet (yellow board) will be essential. A 45 minute timed test will not allow enough time to "flip through" your notebooks. We have to get organized and consolidate all our notes. I will be helping you with that, but you should begin now.
Please check the website daily. The first type we will review will be Chart problems. If you have some time (of which you have nothing but) you can begin there. Also, I know I said to forget the M/C packets, but they will provide a review, so fell free to try them.
Be safe. I miss you all. If you have not done so, please e-mail me so I know we are all on board.
Always keep smiling!
Mr. Kulik
Below is the schedule for this week. We are starting with Chart problems.
Remember that you should create a "yellow board" of your own and apparently you will have use of your calculator for all of the problems. Each day has 60 minutes of work assigned, do the best you can to keep up. Remember to check your answers.

A very special note to my AP students:
The College Board just announced the new format for this year's AP
Exams. The exam will be given on-line. It will be a 45 minute, Part II only exam. It will also be open notes, open textbook.
We have been working on Part II's for the past few months, that should give us an advantage. You need to forget the packets I've provided you and begin working on Part II's!!!
There will be two dates available to take the exam. It is out of my/our hands now, you will have to deal directly with the College Board.
I will be providing guidance (assigning you Part II problems). Please check my website daily.
Be SAFE.
Saturday 3/21
As we are all aware, things have not turned for the better as of yet. They will, I pray every day for it.
The AP board has put out a special notice to all AP students. I ask you to go onto college board and read it. There is a very strong likelihood that you will be taking the AP exam from home. The College Board is providing live review sessions, topic based, beginning Monday. AB will be from 2:00 - 2:45 daily. BC will be from 9:00 - 9:45 daily. Being that we finished the material (with the exception, ironically, of logistic graphs in BC) I would approach each lesson as a review.
I am asking you to keep working on the practice AP's I sent home with you before the senior trip. I will be making available the rest of them, and possibly the secure exams, in the next few days/weeks.
I would like to hear from you and make sure you are safe. Please e-mail me so I know we are all on board to do this.
Monday 3/16
Good afternoon. I hope you all read my comments on the home page. I know as much as you do about our return to school. We have not been given a date to return or any information about Regents/AP exams. For now, I'd like you to follow the schedule below. You should all have hard copies of the first 3 or 4 AP exams assigned in the review calendar. If you do not have the hard copies, you can download all of the AB Part I exams at Crunchy Math or other websites. Simply Google the year and they are out there.
I think we will all agree that this is not ideal, but this is the hand we've been dealt. We have to make it work.
Please be safe, be smart and check in on your family and neighbors.
If you need to reach me, please e-mail me.
